Mesmerising Snowfall Exploration in Tangstad Norway

Heading into winter, the days get shorter, the weather gets colder, but the beauty of The Lofoten Islands never stops. Staying out here in Tangstad Norway at The Arctic Coworking Lodge, I've come to enjoy life surrounded by pure, raw and unfiltered nature - mountains, oceans, forests, beaches all around me. Such a tranquil state of life that removes itself from the rush and hectic schedules of cities. And then one morning, snow fell constantly to give me a first glimpse of the landscape in pure white.

Morning Exploration in the Snow

Around 9am I woke up to find outside in pure white, surprised by how heavy it was falling and that it was simply snowing out of nowhere. The week prior constantly falling of heavy rain, gusty winds and icy chills. I headed out in awe and in vocal company to look outside and there was Himmeltindan nowhere to be found. The highest peak in this area at 962m absolutely covered down to the ground with floating fog hanging low.

My brain suddenly burst into life as I chucked my coat on and gear to venture out and see the nearby surroundings in a different palette. I've always found landscapes even more admiring under the snow.

The port lifeless of people in this barren area. Nothing has changed from the usual activity, dispersed locations of houses with lands separating each other for peace, quiet and privacy. Boats tied and docked as they buoyed up and down the subtle ripples of the ocean waves. At first glance they looked rather still and inanimate. A closer look and little did I know how fast-flowing but smooth they moved from the mouth of the arctic ocean.

The Murky Ocean Fog

It may seem like you're simply staring at a blanket of grey, low altitude fog... and you are absolutely right. But it's just so enthralling the way the fog completely blocks out Himmeltindan on the left, the clear sky above which you can only see very far into the distance of the ocean waters. And even the smaller but still high peak on the right is completely blocked. It's stunning in its own way and was very serene to look at in an eerie way.

If you haven't yet, do check out my exploration video above which shows just how much of the mountain was engulfed by fog.

A few of my favourite stills taken on the day. Norway and many Scandinavian countries have pockets of vibrant, colourful houses dotted around. These collections of houses on the edge of the ocean before the mouth and an imposing mountain definitely create a stunning backdrop, anytime of the year. Under heavy snow and fog, the mysterious and tranquil surroundings where you could hear a pin drop among the water ripples is quite a moment.

Footprints as I walked down the pier to the end of this point to catch that view just opposite (which is also walk-able under an hour from Arctic Coworking lodge). I'll make sure to head there so I can see the opposite view, or better yet the top of those mountains if it's not too dangerous. Got to love the natural and dynamic weather at Tangstad Norway.

Keep Being Awesome.
