Now that's what I call a birds nest.

If ostriches could fly and didn't nest on the ground I guess they would need a nest as big as this. This nest however belongs to many small birds, the social weavers. They frequent the very dry western parts of Southern Africa.

Here is another communal nest, and they get much bigger than this when they are in trees with well spaced branches. trees are scarce here so they use the telephone poles.

Up close you can see the openings to the many nests from underneath. The top is very much like a thatch roof, built from the same grass that is commonly used in thatching.
