Baby Rattle Snake

Grand Canyon Rattle Snake
While in the Grand Canyon I was sitting down on my sleeping mat with my back agains a log. I decided to adjust my mat and when I lifted it up, to my great surprise, I realized this little guy had been coiled up underneath me for the past 20 minutes!

This was pretty scary since baby rattle snakes are more dangerous than adult rattle snakes. Their rattles aren't developed enough to make noise and they aren't able to control their venom if they bite you. This means that they will release all of their venom at once (unlike adult rattle snakes, who know they can't eat you so they save their venom unless very frightened).

After I calmed down a bit, I decided to get my camera and take its picture.
