Would you pass the new driving test? Try these new questions being introduced on December 4

It's been 82 years since the driving test became mandatory in the UK. A lot has happened since the Thirties, not least in terms of car design and road layouts – the driving exam itself has evolved steadily since the first candidate undertook it all those years ago.

This year, it gets another revamp. From December 4, learner drivers will sit the new-style driving test. While it'll still be used to assess the same core competencies necessary for safe use of the public road, there are some additions to the exam that reflect changing technology and much busier streets.

There are numerous changes being made to the practical element of the test, as well as changes to the questions that examiners ask candidates as part of the 'show me, tell me' section of the exam. This part is where candidates are asked to demonstrate their familiarity with the car itself.
