Iceland trip part 2: is it worthwhile?

The land of fire and ice! The first few days discovering Iceland brought us to Borgagnes and the surrounding areas.

My first impressions of iceland are great. Compared to most countries it is very quiet. You can drive for hours and you wont encounter many cars or houses along the road. The people are friendly an most of them speak exellent english. Prices however are high, but in return you get free hot water and free mineral water straight from the tap!

Today we visited three highlights known as the golden circle. Pingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss.

Pingvellir is the place where the eurasian plate seperates from the american techtonic plate. This creates a beauiful valley as you can see on the picture.

In Geysir you encounter natural hotsprings. Every few minutes the hotspring "erupts" and sprouts smouldering hot water in the air. It's a beautiful spectacle to witness. There is also a distinct sulphur smell in the air thanks to damps of the hotspring. A unique sight indeed.

The last visit of today was the waterfall in gullfoss. Due to the seperating techtonic plates a very curious design waterfall was formed.
