Sexuality during pregnancy

Sexuality during pregnancy is a topic that is not often discussed, either because the pregnant mother does not ask about it, or, her obstetrician does not take the initiative to address it.

It is important to know that sexual activity during this period can be practiced, but it must be with extreme care.

Pregnancy can be divided into 3 trimesters, where in each of them the mother will suffer continuous physical, hormonal, emotional changes, etc. All of them will influence the sexual appetite of the future mother.

In the 1st trimester:

• 40% of women have a decrease in sexual desire.
• 50% have an equal impulse of sexual desire.
• And only 5-15% have an increase in it.

During the 2nd trimester:

• There may be an increase in sexual desire.
• The first orgasms are presented in some women.

For the 3rd trimester:

• 5% of women have an increase in sexual desire.
• In 40% their desire is the same as always.
• More than 50% of women present a decrease or absence of it.
