I think the ethical aspect of investing your money is one which should hold more weight than it usually does with the average consumer/investor. For example I fully support the city of New York in their decision to divest from fossil fuels. Regardless of if your portfolio is increasing I think it's quite daft to ignore the real-world effects of what your investment is funding. If your stocks are gaining but your environment is giving you lung cancer (for lack of a better example) then are you really winning?
