Our Homestead Cleaning For Next Years Seeds And Preparing The Pumpkin To Be Cooked And Canned

Collecting Next Years Seeds And Cleaning The Pumpkins

We worked on cleaning the pumpkins till a few minutes ago. After we got them cleaned out I sorted and collected seeds to dry for next years harvest.  Before the children went to bed they were helping their mother with the cleaning. It is always fun to work with the younger children. As they got them cleaned, I would also cut up the pieces to prepare them to be cooked and canned tomorrow. I also was wielding the camera during the time the young children were up working.

Little Sofia Busy Watching

Sam, age 2, was having fun. Sofia, age 3, didn't want to touch. Treasure, age 7, was a big help. At this rate, it will take us several days to finish this last step of the pumpkin harvest.

The pumpkin harvest is the last thing we do, and then we are mostly done till spring. We did bring in a very plants to give us peppers and tomatoes during the winter months, but other than that, the pumpkins will be the end of harvest. A lot of the fall harvest goes into cold storage or is sold as soon as Halloween is over and people turn their thoughts to Thanksgiving.

Just another typical day on the homestead. Thanks for stopping by.
