Hi I'm Danny! I'm travelling around the world! Please Follow me
We reached our final day in Bonito and headed to a place that had been recommended more times than any other destination - the Buraco das Araras sinkhole.
The culture of Bonito, like The Pantanal is rich with cowboys and horses. To get to the sinkhole we got on our horses, riding past capuchin monkeys and other wildlife.
Over 2 thousand years ago this sink hole was flat ground. Around this time the ground subsided and disappeared. This hole is now almost 2 stories deep.
The sink hole has created its own entire ecosystem which now thrives. From a look out point you can grasp just how big this area is. The sink hole is almost 300 meters wide (the Eiffel tower could fit neatly inside).
The area now rich with wildlife is home to hundreds of species of birds. Most famously there are loads and loads of Macaws.
The Macaw is already very popular in Bonito - at the sink hole I must have counted more than one hundred.
The Macaws nest beyond the cliffs and if you're lucky enough to head to a Posada near the sink hole you'll probably have lots of Macaw visitors!
