Verse 3 of The Way of the Tau

For those of you who are wondering how to pronounce the word Tau( it sounds more like DOW)
So here we go into Verse 3

Putting a value on status
will create contentiousness.
If you overvalue possessions,
people begin to steal.
By not displaying what is desirable, you will
cause the people's hearts to remain undisturbed.
The sage governs
by emptying minds and hearts,
by weakening ambitions and strengthening bones.
Practice not doing....
When action is pure and selfless,
everything settles into its own perfect place

So this verse teaches us to

  • rearrange priorities to ensure contentment
  • not to overvalue accomplishments & possessions in order to feed our ego
  • to practice gratitude for what we have
  • instead of thinking "what's in it for me", think how may I serve
  • empty our minds of thoughts about status & acquisitions and focus on serving others & contribution
remind ourselves daily that there is no way to happiness, happiness is the way
  • trust the Tau as the ultimate Souce of happiness
  • learn to trust that action which is pure & selfish allows everything to settle in its own perfect place
