Sometimes I need to remind myself how to state the principled anarchist/libertarian position on any issue. Cutting to the chase and in short: more freedom will help whatever problem is the subject of conversation. Starving people in Africa? Dying rainforest? Oceans filled with plastic? Leprosy? ALL problems can be helped with more freedom. Stretch those scarce resources to the max!
Here is another example. Imagine a man in China who burns a lump of coal to heat his home during the winter. I saw this programming on television who knows when. Burning the lump of coal is terrible for the environment. Worse still, it exposes the man to poisonous gasses, but that exposure is preferable to freezing to death.
Now imagine that free markets do what they do best: deliver quality products at cheap prices. And environmentally-friendly products if affordable and so-demanded. Suddenly, this man could heat his home with breakthrough solar power technology! It may just take a little time for the seeds of liberty to bear fruit, so be patient.
So again, whatever the issue is, always try to avoid getting caught up in the emotional aspect, reframe the conversation in the form of freedom, and then get ready for the future!
