Burning bridges is easier than building bridges

Re #2, I probably should have explained to my girlfriend that bridge construction is a major undertaking to be carried out only by qualified experts who have degrees in civil engineering and who have plenty of relevant experience.

And I could have added that many bridges turn out to be unstable and dangerous.

So, how was it?

Re #1, I walked the pleasant young lady to the genkan (front door), where she slipped on her shoes and turned to leave. Before opening the door, she turned back to me, smiled, and stated the above comment in Japanese.

I was not in any way offended, and was in fact pleased to have been able to do my part to promote inter-cultural awareness.        (Image source)
