Thoughts on Splinterlands Land 2.0

So following on from @slobberchops recent post about the different resource types on Land 2.0 I think he has an interesting point about the value of grain possibly increasing in the short-term....

With land 2.0 dropping sometime probably in early 2025 we're going to have 4 different types of resource being produced...

  • Grain
  • Wood
  • Ore
  • Stone.

And they're just on natural lands, there's a good deal more complexity to be added with magical and occupied plots, but those four resources are core to the whole game...

The last three form the basis of buildings, following various degrees of refinement.

In the LONGER TERM I think the final two should be the most valuable primarily because there are fewer land types which produce them, the first two have four land types each, the later two have three, so assuming these types (bog, hills, caldera and so on) are equally distributed, there will be less ore and stone compared to grain and wood....

But in the short term, you won't be able to do anything with the wood, ore or stone except store them, but any worker producing the later three is going to need feeding, so that will probably INCREASE the short term demand for grain.

So basically the short term direction of the game means that a good chunk of your plots are going to become like research points production - they will just be producing resources that can't be used until some point in the future!

Granted you will be able to trade them for grain, and this will be an option, but some people are going to want to start stacking these resources, so the chances are demand for grain will go up as people buy with DEC.

I CAN'T IMAGINE THERE WILL BE MUCH DEMAND FOR ORE, STONE AND WOOD IN THE SHORT TERM WHEN YOU CAN'T USE THESE RESOURCES UNTIL SEVERAL MONTHS DOWN THE LINE.

This means any trade you make for these resources for grain is likely to be a bad deal if you're the one buying the grain.

So I guess NOW is a good time to be stacking Grain as there's going to be future demand to sell into, OR it'll give you a nice buffer once your non-grain plots get converted into wood/ ore or stone production.

Either way I think just stacking grain NOW is a good idea.

THINKING AHEAD so yr not caught out with a grain deficit....

This is actually relatively easy... if you want to be in a position where you've got your own grain production covered, at least if you've got the luxury of having a tract with at least SOME plots that will still be grain producers in the future then it's simply a matter of shifting over some of those

I will certainly be jiggling my plots around to ensure I've got the highest PP workers and totems on my what will still be grain producing plots, and the weaker workers on the other plots.

For example I've got a lot of lake and river plots, which are going to be GRAIN producers, so I'm going to boost these.

I've also got forest and hills plots which are wood and ore respectively, so I'll downgrade these.

Obviously with a nod to the quality of the plots - so I won't nerf my epic hills plot for example as I want higher PP cards on that whatever is being produced, but what I will do is swap my higher PP cards on commons for commons, Forest to River, for example, and of course I'll also have to factor in splinter type.

This might mean selling a few cards for others, swapping out say some life cards for water cards in my case.

I'll do this gradually over the course of the next few months, no rush, I just want to be ready!

There's probably going to be a good year or more where
