However, we quickly realized that choosing the design and materials was the easy part. The real challenge has been finding quality labor at a reasonable price. Labor costs have skyrocketed compared to the last time we tackled similar home updates—nearly tripling in some cases! This surge in prices can be attributed to inflation and a competitive housing market, making it harder to secure affordable help for these projects.
With the high costs, our progress may slow down a bit. We aren’t in a rush, but it’s frustrating to see how inflation has impacted even smaller home improvements. We’re hoping that, as things shift in the housing market, the cost of labor will become more manageable, allowing us to push forward on our plans.
In the meantime, we’ll continue researching contractors, exploring alternative options, and watching for market trends. Homeownership is a long-term journey, and sometimes the best strategy is patience. The smaller projects, like this bathroom remodel, are just the next step in making our house feel more like home.
