"Rachel? What is ten feet tall, gets to eat chocolate for dinner every day, and never has to floss?" seven year old Scott asked his babysitter.
"I don't know. But it most certainly isn't you. Now finish up that broccoli, or there won't be any chocolate cake for dessert. Your mother's orders." the young teen replied, in her most parent-like voice.
"It's a young T-Rex, with a human nanny. He can eat anything he wants, and she's happy as long as it's not her. And he can't hold onto floss, or a toothbrush. ROARRRRRR!!!!" said Scott, laughing.
"Nice try. Now get busy." she said, then went to the fridge for milk. "I'll have to remember that one, it really was a little funny." she thought to herself.
"I'm done!" announced Scott, as he held up his empty plate in triumph.
"I'll see about that." she replied skeptically, as she set her glass of milk on the counter.
Once Rachel checked the floor, fruit bowl, and even the seats of the other chairs, she frowned. "How did you eat all that in just a few seconds?" she asked, arms crossed.
Scott shrugged his shoulders, and said "It makes it easier if you just do it all at once."
"Well... I guess you really did eat it. You can have dessert now." Rachel said uncertainly, as she took the empty plate.
As the enticing treat sat before him, Scott inhaled the rich, sweet aroma. Then he plucked a large flake of dark chocolate from the icing, and sighed contentedly.
"Are you going to eat it, or stare at it all day?" asked Rachel, looking at her watch. "It's almost time for me to do my homework." she thought, depending on Scott to be glued to the TV in the very near future.
"I just love the way it looks and smells, almost as much as the taste." he reminded her yet again, before he dug in for real.
After Scott finished every bite, he licked the icing off the plate. "That was the best cake ever!" he declared.
"You say that about every chocolate cake." she reminded him.
"Well it's true every time." he said reasonably, rising from his chair.
As he put weight on his feet, he grimaced.
"What's wrong, Scott?" asked Rachel, concerned.
"It's nothing. I just have a little blister, I barely feel it." he replied, walking awkwardly towards the living room.
"It looks like you feel it a lot." she said, following him.
"Nah. I'm fine." he said casually, heading for the bathroom.
"Scott. Go sit on the couch for a minute." she ordered.
"Really, I'm fine. I'll show you when I get back." he argued, becoming nervous.
"Now." said the young girl, in a voice much older than her years.
Defeated, he half hopped towards the couch. Rachel took off his shoe, and gasped.
"How on Earth did you cram so much broccoli in there - and then get your foot back in?!?!" she asked, pulling out one piece after another.
Scott grinned. "I'll do anything for chocolate!"
The Dreemport Challenge part:
As this submission was for the Scholar And Scribe community, I thought it fitting to begin with a fictional story. Hopefully I captured just how delicious chocolate is within the paragraphs. Chocolate is one of my favorite foods, and like young Scott, I think the smell can sometimes be as good as the taste.
How long have you been with Hive? (a simple number is fine!)
I recently celebrated my third Hive birthday! I had wanted to do a post about it, but ironically was too busy enjoying HIve 馃槀 !
Have you ever written fiction before? (yes or no is fine! hehe)
Yes! In fact, I write fiction regularly.
Are you familiar with Scholar & Scribe (They are SO excited to meet you!!!)
Yes I am, as well as the wonderful Pizza community which inspired Scholar And Scribe. I love everything about this community! @dibblers.dabs when do we get the next part of A Tale Of Two Pizzas?
Are you expecting this to be a fun challenge, challenging challenge, exciting challenge, or are you really dreading writing publicly? (Be honest - we are here to cheer you on!)
I'm expecting this to be an extremely fun challenge. But at the same time, I intend to push myself. I have every intention of trying to make this one of my best series ever.
Are you going to TRY to go for the 3 part serial fiction (over 3 weeks), the engagement Bingo option, simply stick to SOME fiction this month for Scholar&Scribe, or some other option altogether?
I am going for all of the above options! This is going to be so much fun!!!
