“Will you both quit sneaking up on me already? I hate it when you do that. It’s creepy.” Ana had sensed a presence. She flinched before rolling her eyes.
“It's not creepy, Ana. It is very natural. Victorine as Ana fondly called the fusion between Victor and Victoria walked in front of her to block her way. Ana could now see her tanned skin and thick black hair in Victorine’s purple eyes.
“Let us go to the bathroom Victoria?” Ana pulled Victorine’s arm before they could say another word.
“I'm not going to the ladies. Hello… It is still Victorine here. Victorine pulled away from Ana while sounding exactly like Victor. At that moment, he was dominant over Victorine.
Ana could see the red color seeping out of Victorine's eyes as Victor removed himself like a melting yet firm crystal out of Victorine. He brushed over his mohawk. Now Ana was staring at Victoria and Victor as separate beings.
“That always does the magic.” Ana looked at Victoria’s blue eyes before eyeing Victor. Let's get to class. We are going to be late.
Victoria reluctantly kissed Victor’s lips and waved him goodbye. The two had been inseparable ever since they got their alter ego three years ago. They were already lovers and having genetic affinity to one another was just the icing on the cake for them. With Victor's smartness and Victoria's assertiveness, together they formed Victorine, who had the ego of a raven.
Ravens were a rare alter ego in Pixelverse but not as rare as griffins and goblins. These were very common alter egos when pixelians fused. Fusing was like a rite of passage that often occurred randomly when pixelians turned sixteen.
The pixelians, unlike humans, had eleven and a half pairs of chromosomes at birth. Their lone pair chromosome was called radical gene alpha, beta, gamma, or X. At age sixteen, the radical gene was ready to randomly fuse with the lone chromosome of another pixelian. This results in an entity having 46 pairs of chromosomes when fusion occurs. This fused entity often has extraordinary physical and mental abilities. Victorine was a raven. Super fast, smart, and very assertive.
While the peak of a pixelian life happened when they began fusing, some like Ana were called loners. They had great difficulty finding a pair. It just didn't happen as easily as it did for the others.
Ana paused midway to class. Her face had turned stone-cold. Victoria could see sadness mixed with anguish in her eyes. “Ana! Are you okay?” Her eyes followed Ana’s.
“I honestly thought he'd be the one.” A tear dropped from Ana’s eyes. “I guess I'm still going to be a loner for a while.” Ana wiped her eyes before she turned away from the sight of Lori and Essau hugging. She had thought that She'd be able to fuse with Essau. She was starting to like him and their radical genes were a perfect match. Alpha and gamma produced Ravens just like Victorine.
“Don't be sad Ana. You'll be able to fuse soon enough you'll see.” Victoria patted Ana on the back before they proceeded to class.
Ana and Victoria both gained admission into the Pixel College of Advanced Technology on the same day. They couldn't be happier. Advanced technology was something that fascinated the childhood friends.
“You must have all heard the discovery of a new planet, Earth by now. It is no news that volunteers are being recruited for the ongoing collaboration between Earth and Pixelverse.” Mr. Gaz was already speaking when the two girls took their seats in the back of the class.
“We still don't know much about Earth, yet. This is why the government has charged this college with the task of producing two of our finest to be recruited into the program. You will be assessed based on your physical and mental capacity.” Mr Gaz peeked through his glasses before he fixed them on his nose. “I'm sure you all have found your alter ego by now.”
“Ana rolled her eyes. “Loners do not make the cut.” She whispered a little loudly that the boy seated next to her giggled.
“I'm a loner too if that makes you feel better,” he said. “My name’s Maeda.”
“Hi, loner. Nice to meet you.”
The two giggled and that was the beginning of a new friendship. Ana and Maeda began spending so much time together that Victoria started to tease them. She would often say, “AnaMaeda is a perfect match. Just fuse already.”
“I don't think we are a match. His radical gene is X and I'm an Alpha.” Ana and Victoria sat eating lunch at the cafeteria. Ana spoke with a concerned look on her face. “If we were a match, we would have fused by now I think.”
“A long time ago in history, gene X and Alpha used to be a great match that produced the chimera. However, it only happened between two lovers.” Victoria’s blue eyes popped. “Perhaps, you are going to create history again.” She teased Ana.
“Chimeras are a myth.” Ana rolled her eyes.
Ana was in her dorm studying one night when a mail popped into her Commodore VIC-20 computer.
“Come to the soccer field now. I have something for you.” The message was from Maeda. Ana smiled. She threw her jacket on, touched her hair, and put on lipstick.
Ana found Maeda pondering on a seat beneath the full moon. He looked very nervous holding a red rose in his hand. As soon as he saw Ana approaching, he passed his hand through his mullet and took a deep breath. “Ana, will you be my girl?” He put forward the rose in his hand.
With a big grin, Ana took the rose and smelled it. “Yes,” she whispered softly.
Maeda held Ana in an embrace. Just then the two began to feel like something was moving inside of them. It was an electrifying soothing sensation. Ana felt as though she was being sucked up and mashed into another body. Within a second, Ana and Maeda fused into a single entity.
Onlookers gaped at the sheer magnificence of this being. Never had they ever witnessed a fusion so grand as that.
Victoria emerged from around the corner. “AnaMaeda? Finally!” She was almost Yelling. With a pair of brown eyes. This being was surely the fusion of Ana and Maeda.
AnaMaeda was going to speak but when it opened its mouth, only tides of flame oozed out.
“A Chimera.”
Hush tones and whispers now filled the air.
