“It's a burn fire night babe, stop questioning me because you are starting to sound irritating. You said you aren't coming, so let me go have some fun please.” Rose responded to Juliet, while facing the dressing mirror, as she applied some Mascara and some finishing touches of loose powder.
“I don't know, babe, I'm really not comfortable. I mean, what sort of beach party takes place at night?”
“The burn fire one silly…. It's the late days of summer, and I'm going to milk it!".
“Hmm…. Just be careful.” Juliet Cautioned.
At this point, Rose wasn't having it calmly anymore with Juliet as she fired, “Juliet, you used to go to the club, you used to be fun. We've stayed out all night and here you are worked up over a burn fire night.”
She continued, “ever since you started dating Peter, all what you do is act like the perfect wife material. But do not bring that nonsense near me. I am going to have fun! I mean, if I'll be cautious, where's the fun in that? It's the beach, and it will be crawling with people…. What could possibly go wrong, Miss Cautious?”
Before Juliet could alter another word, a loud honk came from their front yard.
“Woo-hoo….” Rose screamed in excitement, raising both hands. She was bent on not having a bad night as she quickly swept her disagreement with Juliet under the carpet.
She continued, “now that's my ride and oh, we are done having this conversation. When you get bored being alone, of which I know you will, catch us live on my TikTok.”
Rose grabbed her bag and ran off in excitement to join her friends.
“Is she not coming?” Paul inquired about Juliet as rose jumped into the back of the truck.
“Who? That one? Naa, She's a kill joy. Step on it!"
Rose instructed as Paul fired the engine and they zoomed off.
Juliet prepared for the Night and all what Rose said to her kept replaying. She subconsciously agreed, she's been a kill joy since Peter happened. She and Rose used to be the life of the party right from their Uni days but then, there comes a time when a woman must move on and become responsible, she thought.
“Clearly, Rose is not ready to let go of such a wild lifestyle, so why should her nonsense opinion weigh heavily on me?” Juliet pondered.
After several failed attempts to sleep, Juliet just laid on her bed, counting sheep. Deep down, she wanted to be at the party. She has never attended a burn fire night before, and she knew she was missing out a lot.
She was still lost in thought when a call came in from Rose asking her to check her WhatsApp. Not only that, but she sounded like it was a matter of life and death, so Juliet rushed down to her WhatsApp only to be greeted by a video of Peter rocking some random girl at the burn fire night dance.
Juliet was mad and kept questioning herself as to why Peter didn't carry her along and who's the girl he's with. She thought of so many things, she tried calling Peter with the excuse that there must be a mix up somewhere still Peter wasn't reachable.
In rage, she got dressed and zoomed off to the party. She was so angry and thought about making a scene but on reaching the beach, she was mesmerized.... The beach was orange thanks to the fire burning ever so brightly with tiny fire flakes burning and disappearing into the air.
At another end, there was the best DJ in town, working his magic with several song mixes. The beach had the game area, the dance floor, the VIP lounge where Rose was stealing the show. Everyone brought their A game and Juliet went back in time to when life was exciting and she was living it on the fast lane.
As she stood fixated, she heard the DJ announce couple dance. Everyone was stepping out with their partners to the dance floor including her very own Peter and the random girl she has seen.
Having confirmed her suspicions, Juliet marched to Peter and confronted him but was in for a shocker when Peter denied her. As she held on to him, the girl loosened her grip and threatened to beat her up if she doesn't scram.
Juliet was deeply hurt and the odd one out at the party as she just stood on the dance floor holding her tears while others where dancing and living their best life with booze and drinks.
"I'm guessing you are now the Jesus of our time". Rose teased as she danced around Juliet trying to save her from the embarrassment. Juliet made an attempt to go back home but Rose stopped her. She signalled Paul who has had a crush on Juliet and he came to cheer her up while Rose excused herself.
Paul had a way with words and seeing that he's clearly attracted to Juliet made things easy.
"Do you wany to get icecream?" Paul inquired
"Ice cream this night?" Juliet questioned with her eyes wide opened. She continued, "I think the night is getting cold, I'd rather not".
"Yes Juls, you will, come with me", Paul reached out to Juliet as Juliet grabbed his hands.
"You are in for the best thrills" Paul said to Juliet as he held her hands and they both ran to the icecream stand along the beach shores.
Juliet screamed excitedly as the waves from the Ocean washed through her legs leaving a cold sensation in her body.
The rest of the night was one of a kind for Juliet as Paul is a party animal. They had icecream, while dancing round the burn fire. At a point, Paul did some magic tricks by holding tiny fire flakes in his bare hands cupped together. He let the fire flakes burn out without being hurt.
Juliet was wowed, she was excited and by the time Rose was ready to go home by 4am, "Juliet yelled, go on without me, it's the late days of Summer and Paul and I are going to milk it".
