Let's have a brief review about Ulcer, and the end of this write up we will get the full meaning of ulcer and types of ulcer and some remedies to it.

Let's start with what ulcer is all about.

What is ulcer

Any sore that is inside or outside the body can be defined as an ulcer and most time they take much time to heal especially the ones inside the oesophagus lining in the small intestines.
Ulcer can be found on the skin, the leg, hands or any other place in or outside the body.

Peptic ulcers
Peptic ulcers is classified into two different types of ulcer
Gastric ulcers which always develop in the stomach and
Duodenal ulcers which develop in the upper part of the small intestines known as the duodenum.
This ulcer is caused by bacteria infection known as Helicobacter pylori that causes inflammation in the stomach then damages the duodenum lining.
Peptic ulcers can also develop as a result of taking some pain killers that belongs to the Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) family such as ibuprofen and aspirin.

Esophageal ulcers
This ulcer is found at the esophagus, the esophagus is a tube that connects the throat to the stomach, the sore around the lining of this tube is known as Esophageal ulcers..
This ulcer is mainly caused be acid reflux, it can also be caused by excessive vomiting, smoking and infections.

Arterial ulcer
This occurs in the outer part of the body either the leg or the feet, especially when those areas did not get enough blood supply.

This ulcer is always caused by some chronic illness like diabetes, high blood pressure, and kidney failure, it can also happen when the blood vessels in the body are inflamed.

Genital ulcer
This occurs in the genital organs like the penis, the anus and the vagina and it's often caused by sexual transmitted diseases, it always swollen and painful, it also itches alot, genital ulcer needs medical attention immediately it noticed.

Mouth ulcers
This happens around the mouth and sometimes heals by itself, it can make one feel uncomfortable while eating or drinking but it can easily be treated with salt and my warm water but if it becomes worse it is advice to see the doctor.

Symptoms of ulcer
As there are different types of ulcer so also the symptoms but on a general note they all cause sharp pain in the affected areas, other common symptoms includes heartburn, chest pain, nausea and vomiting, abdominal discomfort and passing out too much gas.

Get a proper diagnosis
Some people get a wrong diagnosis when they meet with the wrong person or when they try self medication, to get a proper diagnosis is very important that we meet a medical doctor who will run a test known as Gastroscopy this test will help to find out where the sore is located.
Also a H. pylori infection test will be carried to see if there is any infection, blood test will also be done, with all this a proper diagnosis will be carried out and treatment will follow suit.

Why should I get a proper ulcer treatment?
There are some complications that follows untreated ulcer, untreated ulcer can cause bleeding either internal or external and this can lead to death.
Untreated ulcer can cause a patient vomiting blood and may turn anemic which can lead to death.
Perforation can also occur if ulcer is left untreated so please meet a General practitioner immediately you notice ulcer symptoms.

To prevent ulcer we need to live healthy everyday, avoid smoking, excessive drinking of alcohol, avoid unprescribed pain relief.
It is also important to wash our hands before and after eating, make sure we protect our kitchen from any form of infection, personal hygiene is very important.
