A sleek shopping mall with all one's favourite shops, a country market filled with arts, crafts and homemade goods, and a plant nursery all have their own charm.
Some sections in our garden needed some sprucing up and more colour as well. As it's springtime and our rainy season will soon be upon us, it's the perfect time to plant.
We decided to drive a little south as we had heard about the Illovo Plant Nursery, somewhere in the region of @joanstewart's stomping grounds.
This was our first visit to the Illovo Nursery, and we were not disappointed!
We did not know they also had a Craft and Fresh Produce Market, but we ran out of time as we needed to have lunch, so eating and plant shopping took up most of our time.
I took a little peek and these caught my eyes.
I have my eye on these sturdy wooden chairs, but it will have to wait for now; we'll also need to borrow a bakkie/ van as it definitely will not fit into our car!
We will definitely go back to see what delights that section has as we also want to buy more plants! Cannot carry too much in our boot now can we?
We were starving when we got there, so enjoyed a light lunch in a large outdoor area with the nursery on the one side.
Hubby chose Beer-battered Fish & Chips and I went for a spicy Chicken Curry, both meals did not disappoint!
They have an awesome range of healthy, strong plants, and their prices are right up our alley!
We went home with colourful Daisies and a couple of unusual variegated Bromeliads with a pretty flower.
I shared the results of one area in our garden in my BLOG yesterday.
Geraniums - an old-time favourite with gardeners over the years - they happily grow in flower beds, pots and hanging baskets.
Impatients - another old favourite with gardeners. They self-seed so are very rewarding plants, popping up all over the garden.
Alstroemena aka Lily of the Incas
Clivia or the Bush Lily
One of my Ouma's favourite plants, the unpretentious Coleus.
The Yellow Shrimp Plant is also known as the lollipop plant because of the showy yellow flowers. It's a very generous evergreen shrub that flowers year-round.
Bromeliads only flower once and begin to die off but keep on producing new offspring plants.
Gorgeous Fragrant calming Lavender - cuttings can be placed in amongst your linen inside muslin cloth, giving off the most gorgeous frangrance.
Pretty colourful Pansies, or as we call them in Afrikaans - Gesiggies, meaning 'little faces' as they seem to be looking up to the sun with their pretty smiling faces.
We could have spent way more time in this nursery but time caught up with us, as it always does, and so it was time to say goodbye, but not before this beautiful poem carved into sandstone caught my eye.
The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
