Visiting Prince Edward Street Markets After Quite A While

19th January 2024

One of my favorite spots to go shopping and take strolls in my old neighborhood was Prince Edward. I haven't been there in many months, and I've really missed it. My church was just on my way to it too, and it had some nice places for shopping and cultural events. Above all, the street markets are the main draw for tourists to this location.

I used to purchase here since it had a lot of reasonably priced, high-quality items. This is simply one of the street markets in Hong Kong that offers merchandise, accessories, home goods, gift items, and other stuff at the lowest possible costs. Fortunately, I was able to purchase some high-quality things from this street market years ago that I still use now. Brands are largely unimportant, what matters is how you choose high-quality products.

There are fruits and traditional foods sold in this market too. Especially on Chinese New Year, the street is so crowded and stalls are full of red CNY auspicious decor, ornaments, dresses, and lucky food.

Apart from shopping for personal and home items, one of the best things to do in Prince Edward is to try Hong Kong street foods. Here are some of the popular foods in this market.

Roasted sweet potatoes, chestnuts, and quail eggs are best to try in the cold season. This requires quite an effort when roasting them on a wok of coal, and I love smelling the earthy roasted scent of sweet potatoes. Do you know that sweet potatoes are sweeter when roasted? I discovered that after eating a Japanese roasted sweet potato. I haven't tried roasted chestnut and quail eggs yet. That will be the next.

Meanwhile, this kind of shop is quite typical here in Hong Kong selling egg waffles, rice cakes, meatballs, tofus, and other traditional Hong Kong snacks.

Egg waffle is a must-try street food in Hong Kong. It's a very old HK snack but some shops now sell different kinds of egg waffles incorporating Chinese teas and modern flavors that cater to the taste of young people.

It feels so good to be back in a neighborhood that was once part of my journey. Every step I make through this street is a recollection of good memories that still lingers in my mind.
