Best Selling Albums Series: Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Water | Rising Star Giveaway - Reward 10000 (+5000) Starbits (Ends 8 December UTC)

Bridge over Troubled Water is the fifth and final studio album by American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. The album was released on Columbia Records on January 26, 1970, and was produced by Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel and Roy Halee. Paul Simon wrote all the songs on the album except Felice and Boudleaux Bryant's "Bye Bye Love". The album followed a similar musical pattern as their previous album Bookends (1968), partially abandoning their traditional style to incorporate elements of Rock, R&B, Gospel, Jazz, world music, pop and other genres.

The release of Bridge Over Troubled Water was followed by several re-releases. Additionally, the album was mixed and released in both stereo and quadraphonic. Columbia Records released a 40th Anniversary Edition on March 8, 2011, containing two DVDs, including the politically themed TV special Songs of America (1969), The Harmony Game documentary, additional notes, and a booklet. Other re-releases include bonus tracks, such as the 2001 version covering the demo tapes "Feuilles-O" and "Bridge over Troubled Water". Contemporary critical reception of the album were initially mixed, but retrospective reviews of the album were full of praise and considered it the duo's best album.

Bridge Over Troubled Water was a major commercial success and became one of the best-selling albums of all time, selling over 25 million copies worldwide. It also became the best-selling album ever at the time of its release. The album topped the charts in more than ten countries and received six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year at the 1971 Grammy Awards. It has appeared on several "greatest" lists, including number 172 on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list in 2020.

Despite huge commercial success and accolades, the duo decided to split up and parted company later 1970. While Garfunkel continued his film career, Simon continued to worked with music. Additionally, both released solo albums in the following years. Click to see the ranking of the best-selling albums of all time and to get more information about the albums.

I would actually like to say that my favorite song by Simon & Garfunkel is "The Sound of Silence", released in 1964. The songs I listen to most from the Bridge over Troubled Water album are "Bridge over Troubled Water" and "The Boxer". I think all three are great works.

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water

There have been many great covers of this song, but no one sang it like Art Garfunkel. He really has a very pure voice. It's a 43-year-old song, and it still gives me chills when I listen to it.
