Faith is the debut solo studio album by English singer George Michael. The album was released on October 30, 1987 by Columbia Records and Epic Records. Additionally, the album was produced by George Michael himself. In addition to playing various instruments on the album, Michael wrote every track on the record except "Look at Your Hands", which he co-wrote with David Austin. A pop album influenced by R&B, funk and soul music, Faith's songs contain introspective lyrics that generated controversy about George Michael's personal relationships at the time.
The album Faith peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. It also stayed in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 for 51 non-consecutive weeks, including 12 weeks at number one. It also became the first album by a white solo artist to reach number one on the Billboard Top Black Albums chart. Faith has spawned four number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, "Faith", "Father Figure", "One More Try" and "Monkey", making George Michael, the only British male solo artist to have four number-one hits from one album on the Billboard Hot 100.
Faith was a major commercial success, selling over 25 million copies worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling albums of all time. It was also certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1996. The album won several awards, including Album of the Year at the 31st Grammy Awards. George Michael won Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist, and Favorite Soul/R&B Album at the 1989 American Music Awards. It was also ranked number 151 on Rolling Stone's 2020 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Michael was also honoured the MTV Video Vanguard Award. George Michael's voice is truly perfect, his voice seems to come from another realm. I wish he was still with us, but unfortunately he passed away on December 25, 2016. But his wonderful works are still with us and will be with us forever. I can say that the songs I listened to the most from the album Faith were Father Figure and One More Try.
