Year of the Rabbit Spring Festival Photos

So, currently China is in the middle of the Spring Festival / Chinese New Year. The Chinese zodiac follows a 12 year lunar cycle. This year is dedicated to rabbits, last year was tigers, and the year before involved pigs. One tradition every year is to have lantern displays, and my city of Changzhou, these colorful displays are at Dinosaur Park -- a gaudy tourist trap and amusement park dedicated to cartoonish depictions of dinosaurs.

Typically, every year there is a giant light sculpture dedicated to the new year's zodiac animal. This year, the bunny in question was different than prior years.
Typically, the lanterns are made by crafting wire skeletons with internal lights. Colored fabric is then stretched over that, and then lit up once the sun goes down.

The black lines you seen in these photos is actually the internal metallic wire skeleton. As light sculptures, this gives each of the pieces a segmented visual texture. I like these displays every year because they remind me of the Hannukah vs. Christmas lawn displays back in New Jersey where people would go out of their way to show their holiday spirit, and people would just walk around to soak in a surreal ambiance. Speaking of which, my favorite this year actually beats others of years past, but in the age of COVID where public attractions has been discouraged, it's actually not that hard to do. Still, I loved looking at this.
