The Bird Hide

Warning to all photographers, stay away from the rapid fire mode on your camera! 2000 of shots from a bird hide and I've selected 30 to edit, and the ones in the following post are a few of those shots. I have no regrets though as I love these shots and it was a lovely, quiet and peaceful spot to work from :)

I actually found the hide whilst on a bike ride. I had my camera with me at the time and quickly became engrossed. I joke about having to go through 2000 images, well that was actually very literal, but I really enjoyed the process. The hide was naturally a very quiet and calm place so as not to distract or scare the birds, and it became addictive. After setting my camera settings for the light, I quickly realised I needed to bump the shutter speed up a lot, so I had f2.8 aperture and at least 1/500 of a second to start, and adjusted from there, so as to get the wing spans and the details as these little buggers were fast! I got some shots I really loved though, next thing is I need a longer lens!

As a photographer I try to mix what I do in my shots, I've done still life, some macro work, lightpainting and I enjoy a good model shoot. If you'd like to check out any of my other work I'm on Facebook, or you can find me on Instagram under neilru75

Thanks very much for looking

Kind Regards, Neil
