Mi regreso a La Habana fue más que una simple visita a mi pueblo natal; fue un viaje al corazón de una ciudad cargada de historia y arte en cada rincón. Mientras caminaba por las calles de la Havana, me encontré con algo que resonó profundamente en mí: los grafitis que decoran los viejos muros, una forma de arte callejero que parecía hablar desde el alma de mi pueblo cubano.
My return to Havana was more than just a visit to my hometown; it was a journey into the heart of a city steeped in history and art in every corner. As I walked through the streets of Havana, I came across something that resonated deeply with me: the graffiti that decorates the old walls, a form of street art that seemed to speak from the soul of my Cuban people.
Uno de los murales que más me impactó fue el retrato de una mujer con un turbante adornado con la bandera cubana. Estaba pintada con tal intensidad que no pude evitar detenerme para contemplarla. En su expresión serena, pero decidida, había algo que me recordaba a la fuerza interna de mi Cuba. Al lado de ella, unas palabras se destacaban: "No hacen falta alas para hacer un sueño". Fue como si esas palabras me susurraran directamente al oído, invitándome a no rendirme, a seguir luchando por mis propios sueños, sin importar cuántas veces tropiece en el camino.
One of the murals that struck me the most was the portrait of a woman wearing a turban adorned with the Cuban flag. It was painted with such intensity that I couldn't help but stop and look at it. There was something in her serene but determined expression that reminded me of the inner strength of my Cuba. Next to her, some words stood out: "You don't need wings to make a dream come true." It was as if those words were whispered directly in my ear, inviting me not to give up, to keep fighting for my own dreams, no matter how many times I stumble along the way.
El desgaste en el mural me hizo pensar en el tiempo y las dificultades que esta ciudad y mi gente han enfrentado, pero también en la resiliencia, en cómo, a pesar de todo, siguimos luchando, sobreviviendo y creando arte para expresar nuestros anhelos.
La Habana, mi bella Habana, con sus grafitis y sus coloridas fachadas, es un reflejo de esa lucha y esperanza constante. Los artistas que plasman sus sueños y realidades en los muros de la ciudad son, en mi opinión, cronistas del presente, dejando un legado para el futuro. Cada dibujo, cada palabra escrita sobre las paredes desconchadas, es un testimonio de resistencia, una promesa de que los sueños, aunque a veces difíciles de alcanzar, siempre valen la pena.
The wear and tear on the mural made me think of the time and hardships this city and my people have faced, but also of resilience, of how, despite everything, we continue to fight, survive and create art to express our desires. Havana, my beautiful Havana, with its graffiti and its colorful facades, is a reflection of that constant struggle and hope. The artists who capture their dreams and realities on the walls of the city are, in my opinion, chroniclers of the present, leaving a legacy for the future. Each drawing, each word written on the peeling walls, is a testimony of resistance, a promise that dreams, although sometimes difficult to achieve, are always worth it.
Cuando dejé La Habana, llevé conmigo algo más que fotos o recuerdos. Me llevé el espíritu de una ciudad que, a través de su arte urbano, nos enseña que incluso en los momentos más oscuros, sin recursos,por medio del arte los sueños se mantienen vivos.
When I left Havana, I took with me more than just photos or memories. I took with me the spirit of a city that, through its urban art, teaches us that even in the darkest moments, without resources, through art, dreams can be kept alive.
