“WARWICK HALL” - Warwick-on-Eden, Carlisle, UK 🇬🇧 ~ Wednesday Walk and some Time Traveling 🧳 📦

Hi all 👋🏻

Let’s go BACK IN TIME 🕰️ a bit… yep… I suggest you come along for a time travel experience…
This experience will start today, I have so much to tell and show you 😊 I don’t want to skip parts.

I will divide the adventures over my coming posts where I will show you what was going on the last month bit by bit 😊
Truly some exciting adventures and busy times will come by!
So you can understand why I was so busy lately 😇

Some of you know what I am talking about, some don’t. Just a small recap… I needed to move out of the UK as things didn’t go as planned / imagined after our move from Spain 🇪🇸 to Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 last December.
This post will start with our last days on the WEST COAST of Scotland… 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
The last weeks there I was going back and forth from Scotland to the Stamford region (12 hour drive over 2 days… 🚗🚗) where the parents in-law live ~ to tile their floors 🤓 this was hard work and during a time I should have been focussing on packing our belongings for a country move. 📦📦📦
I posted about the tiling back then… ”Let’s TILE some handmade HEXAGON TERRACOTTA TILES”
After we returned to Scotland I had to hurry up the packing 📦 in between tiling and getting ready for moving countries.

So, are you ready to come along today?

Let’s start 😎

With this post I’m joining in at the Wednesday Walk challenge and Make me Smile challenge. That are hosted by @tattoodjay and @elizacheng every week on Wednesday.

‼️Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community if you want to join in!… the community is run by @tattoodjay.
Look at his last Wednesdaywalk post here: “Wednesday Walk a couple of short walks“
It will tell you also the rules of joining in at the Wednesday walk posts 😁 come join us!

Today’s selection will be of 62 photographs.
Dates: 23 to 29 April 2023.
The Photographs in this post are all taken with my iPhone 📱🤓
I will follow the time stamps on them. So it looks like you are experiencing my adventures and later on walking along with me on this #walk, to 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 #discover everything what I saw, like the little #details seen through my eyes and the stunning #scenery, #architecture, #forest, #flowers, #fields and #sheep. 😊

The living room was truly a mess during the packing… boxes and wrapping in every corner.

The furniture needed to be disassembled and wrapped and all belongings needed to be packed for a long journey to a NEW COUNTRY.

Bit by bit… the rooms on the ground floor were filling up with boxes 📦📦📦 and furniture.

During this period I captured the views several times and thought… I surely will miss the WEST COAST of SCOTLAND 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I had no time to explore it all… while only living there 3 months.
Here you see a cloudy afternoon on 23 of April.

I will visit it again 😎 I promise. Too much I didn’t see.

On 26 April it was the day of the “movers picking up all our belongings” 🚛🚛📦📦 early morning.

If you think this truck looks small you are right… hahaha 🤣
They were contracted by my movers and somehow they thought our 18 something m3 would fit in there… (READ : TOOOOOO SMALL) TRUCK. Is it a truck or shall I say VAN?

So as we were living remote… this meant they came all the way from Inverness… they had to go back to their warehouse, unload and drive the 1 hour 15 minutes journey again in the afternoon… to pick everything else up that didn’t fit the first time 🫣

Nope I will not elaborate how I felt that day. 🤐
My mover said weeks ago a 30m3 truck would come and fetch all… no worries it surely fits… that clearly didn’t happen. 🫣

But… eventually… they worked hard

and got it all loaded up and we waved good bye 👋🏻 to our belongings late in the afternoon. As at this time I didn’t know when we would see them again. I was aiming for 9 May 🤓

The next day we cleaned the rental house and put back the owners furniture in the same spots when we entered the house…
The day after : 28 April was our last day/ morning.

So we had to take apart our STARLINK… as we sure are taking it.

In settings you can STOW it.

Yes I will 🤓 click!

And Starlink is stowed so we can take it apart…

…put it in the box again to take with us to our next country 😎📡

After filling up the car the next hour or so… it literally came to the roof…

We closed the garage door for the last time 🤓

And started our journey down to the in-laws for some more tiling.
The first day we drove almost 6 hours to our accommodation for the night 🏨 what was located in Carlisle… to be precise: WARWICK-ON-EDEN 🇬🇧

Let’s start the drive 🚗🚗🚗
Driving off the mountain 🏔️ we lived…

Along the road…

First stop :
Post office just outside of Inverness

Why?

Because we needed to post the keys of the rental house we lived in for the last months… and never saw the landlord or an agent that showed us the house… or could do a check out this day.
hahaha 🤣

If you don’t remember our moving in date end of January. The garage was open with the keys inside… 😳 and the agent met us along the road somewhere. She didn’t dare to drive up the mountain in the snow. So we rented it unseen… and un showed… (is that a word?)

We posted the keys 🔑

Bye bye… that was officially our handover of the rental house…
Send this receipt with tracking number to the landlord and that was it.

We had some lunch in Inverness as it was past lunch time already. Before we started our 5 hour journey further.

We filled up the car with diesel ⛽️

And hours later… and a coffee (cappuccino) break along the road here and there.
We saw the sign for Carlisle around 20:00h in the evening.

We stayed in a bed and breakfast for the night. The location was exactly half way to where we had to drive to over these 2 days.
The entrance to the bed and breakfast.

It is a stunning location.
We stayed at WARWICK HALL 😊 as we wanted some comfort after a very stressful period.

More information about the Warwick Hall and the grounds around it you can find here: “Warwick Hall”

Do have a look… it’s interesting.
The website states;

History of Warwick Hall:
The original Warwick Hall was occupied by the Warwick family until Ann Warwick died unmarried in 1774. The Warwick family were catholic and attended to by Benedictine priests who lived in the hall. The original hall was substantially rebuilt in 1828.

After the original hall was destroyed by fire in 1936 a new hall was constructed in the neo-Georgian style by John Laing & Son. The rebuilding was commissioned by Colonel Guy Elwes and the hall remained in the Elwes family until Mrs Aileen Elwes (daughter of Charles Liddell) died in 1996.

An American from Worcester, Mass Vall Marriner bought Warwick Hall in 1998 with her second husband, Nick, an English accountant and enthusiastic fisherman and hunter.
One of the main attractions of the 260-acre estate is pheasant shooting and also includes two miles of private trout and salmon fishing, as well as open fields and private woodland.
It started off with 14 bedrooms and not enough bathrooms. It now has nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

Built on the foundations of an 18th-century home that burned in 1936, Warwick Hall is made of stone, in neo-Georgian style with period touches. The previous owners had a sumptuous Roman Catholic chapel with gold railings, red silk-draped walls and lace on the windows.

After checking in, it was close to getting dark already.
So we went into our room and relaxed for the evening.
The main entrance has this wonderful staircase:

View out of the window of the room… we stayed in a studio on the ground floor.

The very comfy bed 🛏️

THE NEXT MORNING
We went for our #breakfast at 8 in the morning and our view looked like this 🥰

One could see the river running through the large estate… as you could read above. This country house has 260 acres of grounds 🤩

The table was decorated nicely with freshly picked flowers.

The placemats depicting the house itself with spring flowers.

Looking to the left towards the rest of the breakfast room. I avoided the right side as more guests were present. Beautiful and bright ☀️

Love the painted floors. 🥰

After ordering… our breakfast came quickly.
Hubby’s small English breakfast.

And mine:
French toast with berries and syrup.

Yep… another photo… and do you know why?
THIS WAS THE BEST FRENCH TOAST I HAD EVER EATEN!!

Seriously… it was amazing. Coming from somebody that (almost) never eats breakfast hahaha 🤣 this means a lot. Loved it and wished I could have this everyday 🥰

After breakfast we walked around some other rooms of this country house.

Somehow it feels homely, as the owner lives also on this property and one sees personal belongings around. Like family photos.

Their personal books, also for others to read.

Going back to our studio… we pass by the windows on the outside we looked through the evening before. We are getting our coats 🧥

Let’s start our WALK now:
Are you coming along on this early morning walk at 9? 😉😊

You must think finally the walk… hehehe 🤭 but I hope you liked catching up on what happened so far.

As the grounds are large it does have some trails one can walk. We choose the one around the house and along the river.
We see:

Looking back at the country house. It’s stunning.

The river is next to us.

Zooming in we see a gathering… it looks like they are getting ready for some fishing.

We follow the path.

Next to us we see spring flowers popping up…

It’s very quiet this early in the morning. No other guests have gone for a walk.

View towards the bridge on the other side of the river.

The fields towards the left of us have some sheep 🐑 in them, and I see little lambs too 🥰 soooo cute.

Look at them… aaawwww 🤗 no I didn’t go and cuddle them hehehe 🤭

A close up of some dandelion seeds.

The path divides now… towards the left or follow the river.

We went left here… come along and look for the birdhouses in these trees.

We ended up along a walled garden. Some trees had some #blossoms 🌸🌸🌸

We didn’t go into the walled garden as we didn’t have hours to explore this morning as a long journey had to be made… 🚗🚗🚗

So we went along a path through the fields of the sheep.

Some #ducks 🦆 joined the sheep 🐑

One look back at the river before we take in the gardens at the house.

The gardens at the back… we looked out over them during breakfast.

Some statues are well placed.

The tulips are flowering during this early spring day.

#alwaysaflower as @dswigle tells us that can’t be missed in a post 🥰

The #tulips come in many colours… see how bright these are.

The side of the house.

Some other buildings in the back. Let’s check them out before we go. 😎

Cool looking buildings for the staff and maintenance.

Suddenly I see a hare 🐰

Zooming in for you… do you see it?
It is very large. I first thought it was a dog.

Let’s go back and start our next roadtrip further 🚗🚗

And with this last photograph I say “that’s all for today’s post and UPDATE my friends, join me next time for more #updates, #adventures, #stories and #photographs 😎👋🏻 Even some #artworks once in a while will come by” 🎨
Thank you so much for looking, and reading.
