The Greatest Show in Richmond

The last time I went to the circus, I must've been around four or five years of age. I remember the clowns. That's it. I don't remember the trapeze acrobats, animals, and so on. Just the clowns. Laughing. LAUGHING! HAHAHA! No, I don't have a fear of clowns. That's just what I remember.

So, I decided to check out the Royal Canadian International Circus the other day. After so long, I had a forgotten what it all entailed. Why do people find circuses fun? Would I find it entertaining now after having experienced so many years of adultivity? Would I be able to cast off the armor of a civilized man and experience the exhilaration of being a childish immature one?

It was hot hot hot inside in more ways than one

The place was packed and buzzing. A child kept blowing a vuvuzela near my ear, but I didn't let the little rug-rat ruin my fun. There were snow cones, cotton candy, flashing lights, music, and all the pomp and circumstance that goes with a circus show. Whoee!

I was actually surprised how fun the whole thing was. The defiance of humanity against the laws of physics, not for some survival or territorial need but pure exploration of human abilities, bravery, homour, and sense of beauty. It was a thrilling kinesthetic show.

As shown in the video, this acrobat ran outside this contraption. I stopped recording just as he performed his death defying trick. But it was cool, trust me 😅

It is an international circus, which meant that many of the performers were from around the world. The ladies dancing came wearing extravagant customs then sinuously proceeded to enthrall us with their high-twirling acrobatic dance.

There were no clowns or lions, but for a brief moment that hot parking lot turned into a magnificent place of wonder. There were comedic performances and magic shows that entertained adults and children and immature men. This is difficult to pull off, so it was impressive how they manage to create a seamless experience that could entertain a variety of audiences. They ran a smooth tight ship. After the motorcycle show, I was buzzing. I had way more fun than I thought I would. My only regret is that I didn't get that snow cone I was lusting after.
