Lantau Island seems to be my weekend getaway recently. After I visited Po Lin Monastery at Big Buddha, it was followed the next weekend to explore other spots around the area. While walking towards my desired location, I stumbled upon what I initially thought to be a water lily plantation. However, the location's name is translated as Tang Hui Universiade Treasure, which is probably incorrect. I assumed this is merely a water lily garden used exclusively for monastery purposes, because I was unable to search about the place online. There's presumably an exhibition center or something inside the building, but I wasn't able to visit.
Ngong Ping water lilies are part of the attractions in the area. While wandering around, I saw water lilies in many parts, including the area around the Buddha and monastery. Outside this center is an array of black large basins where water lilies are grown. They seemed new as the flowers were still quite tiny as though newly sprouted. They are thriving cute creatures in the water that truly captivate visitors' attention. Apart from water lilies, this center is also growing bonsais and other plants.
Their vibrant exquisite flowers are for sure, the captivating features. While their roots are submerged in the water, their leaves and flowers float on the surface. The best part of it is when they bloom beautifully amidst murky waters. How amazing it is, right?
Their situation can be applied to human life if we view it from different perspectives. Saying so, it is often used as a metaphor for personal growth. In Chinese culture, water lilies symbolize rebirth and purity. And in many temples and monasteries here in Hong Kong, you'll see water lilies, probably because it's also a metaphor for spiritual transformation. Despite living in murky waters, they seek light and grow into the surface beautifully. Water lilies truly are beautiful creatures, not just because of their physical features, but also their symbolic meaning.
