Gran Paradiso National Park

Gran Paradiso National Park, the first Italian national park, is an alpine habitat of outstanding richness. It’s located in the North of Italy in the Graian Alps, between the Aosta valley and Piedmont regions. 3977782_large58303.jpg

I have been there a lot of times in all seasons, for ice climbing, mountaineering, trekking, fishing, and obviously photography.

This post is about a trip I had a few months ago, in early summer 2021, it was a special trip because in Italy Covid restrictions were just finished. After many weeks without being able to travel, it was a relief to enjoy nature and mountains again, a real medicine! 3979173_large89067.jpg

We spent a week in Rovenaud, a tiny village in the middle of the Valsavarenche valley, waking up very early and going to bed very late, but we needed it and it was worth it!

Young Ibexes playing fighting. The Ibex is the symbol species of Gran Paradiso National Park, it was threatened with extinction at the end of the 19th century and it survived only in the valleys that today make up the Park. Every year, many ibex are taken from Gran Paradiso in an attempt to reintroduce the species in other alpine regions.3977782_large58303.jpg
