Six Photos in the Bardo museum in Tunis

The Bardo museum in Tunisia has some stories, unfortunately some of them very bad, but it is one of the more impressive museums I've been to and one of the most important in Africa, and I would argue for what it represents the world.

It has the best collection of Mosaics in the world, mainly from when the Roman empire was ruling Tunisia. Why is this important, well in an age when we are very conscious of artifacts from countries being stolen by colonisers and displayed at home - I'm looking at you British museum it is important that these historical artifacts are still in the country of origin and the wonders can be seen by Tunisians.

Of course the Bardo mueseum is also a major tourist attraction from international visitors which was one of the reasons it was the site of a terrorist attack in 2015 where many people were taken hostage and 24 killed.

But today is not about that, and although there is a memorial to those (mainly trourists) slain and interesting our guide (not just for Bardo, the lovely Imed who took us all through Tunisia) was there on the day - the sentence -'This is where I was hiding with my tour group as we could hear the shots' was not a sentence I'll forget anytime soon he was also quick to point out that life must continue, that we most not let their views win and we most continue to share the treasures with the outside world. In this vain I share these 6 shots of the amazing mosaics of Bardo and urge you to visit Tunisia in general - it is a truly fascinating country full of things you will not see anywhere else.
