A while ago, I ventured into light painting with dandelions, enjoying their delicate structure and unique charm. You saw it in my latest posts. since their time blooming is over, I recently discovered a new flower in my neighborhood: the Allium christophii. This stunning bloom looks soo much like a dandelion but is much larger, making it perfect for creating dramatic and captivating Light Painting images right here in my living room.

Intrigued by its potential, I brought one home and experimented with my camera rotation tool and of course light painting it. Here are the mesmerizing results of my latest floral light painting adventure. Dive into the world of Allium christophii and see how this magnificent flower can elevate your photography.

This is one interesting flower. It's now found even in Germany as a decorative flower. The Star of Persia, or Allium christophii, is a stunning ornamental plant known for its large, spherical flower heads made up of star-shaped, metallic lilac flowers. Originating from Iran and Central Asia, it has found a way to Germany. I found it on the side of the road! The flower heads can reach up to 20-30 cm in diameter and remain attractive even after blooming. This hardy plant thrives in well-drained soils and full sun. In Germany, the Star of Persia is particularly appreciated for attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies, supporting local biodiversity. Its non-invasive nature ensures it enhances gardens without overtaking them. Let's Light Paint These! I mean hey, the flower's name itself is worth telling the story. Star of Persia continues to captivate with its unique beauty and resilience.

The Camera was set on my camera rotation tool of course sittin' on my tripod as usual. For this session, I was using my 24-105mm F4 lens at F22 for the most part. For the colored Light Paintings, I had to lower the F-stop and increase the ISO. The exposure times vary a lot since every step counts. The simple once starts with a 23-second exposure time that went up to 130+ seconds when using color in every rotational step.

During the 86-second exposure time I simply took a little flashlight and placed the light carefully so as not to light up more than just the flower. So id did it 12 times in 12 rotational steps. The light, then rotate the camera, light, rotate ...

The camera was set to ISO 100 and the Lens was at F22 here.

Ok let's make it a bit more interesting. Let us mix in some color and some more interesting shapes.

The lines on the side are not there in purpose or anything planned. It was just the silks hanging in the background catching some light. since it was a camera rotation it did actually add some interesting shapes.

At last, I chose a circular plexi blade to create the light trails coming from the left and right edges leading into the center top and ground. This shot has a 173-second exposure time. You see how the complexity of your composition adds more time needed to perform all the neccesary little steps.

Once I had my rhythm it was easy to change colors, repeat and vary with the steps to produce a few different color versions of the Flower Rotation. Fancy a little more Blue or Red?

As I have shared with you in many of my posts about Camera Rotation. Yes, it is just what the name suggests. The camera is being rotated during the exposure, sometimes in steps sometimes in a continuous motion while doing so I also light up the scene.
