What? So much Vegetation In Iceland ?

You probably know Iceland as a country with no trees. This is almost true, some areas have trees but vegetation like this?

This is actually a botanical garden in Iceland northern capital of Akureyri. First opened in 1912 and has been expanded three times since then. It is situated 50m above sea level. The aim of the botanical garden is to grow trees, shrubs and perennials in the demanding climate of Northern Iceland, which is characterized by pronounced seasonality of temperature and day length.

Besides the 430 native species, a surprising number of 6600 alien plants grow in the garden.

Everything you see in the photos has been planted by someone, Including large trees.

It was so crazy to see so many plants and high trees. We had already been in Iceland for 10 days and gotten used to the open landscape so much that seeing this was something very different.
