It has been a while since our last trip but we are on the travel mode again! In a couple of days is the orthodox Easter and the whole country seems to be in a traveling fervor. I am not a huge fan of traveling on the rush days when everyone is trying to get somewhere but we got carried away by the festive mood and decided to leave our island and visit some family members in another part of Greece. After all Easter is a family holiday and it is meant to be celebrated with beloved ones!
When you live on an island the ferry is a big part of your life and when you want to go to the mainland with your car, is the only way to get there. The trip to/from Crete usually happens at night. It is a long journey, around 10 hours and sleeping through it is the best way to make it look shorter :)
I am familiar with those ferries since my childhood, long before we move permanently on the island. Crete is my fatherland and I used to visit it every year for the summer vacations. Now that I am a resident I take the opposite trip, leaving the island for the holidays. Life is so funny some times :)
Spring is my favorite season to take the ferry because we leave a little after the sunset and arrive a little after the sunrise. The ideal timing for photography and enjoying both ports! Yesterday I left my camera in the car but I took a few snapshots with my phone to give you the vibe of the trip!
I am now to one of the most beautiful Greek towns. It is next to the sea, it has a very scenic old town and a gorgeous medieval castle.
Can you guess where am I?
