Hello everyone and welcome back to my photography post! I know it's been a while but I have to say I am going through such a tough time, my body needs some checks and psychologically speaking I don't feel great either. However I really wanted to share some good pictures that I saved on a draft at least a couple of weeks ago. Have you ever been to Castel Gandolfo and Nemi Lakes? Today I will bring you to visit both lakes, along the Via Francigena path we walked with a group of students from my university, where I work at the Athletics Department. As usual, hope you enjoy the photographic journey!
Via Francigena is "an ancient road and pilgrimage route running from the cathedral city of Canterbury in England, through France and Switzerland, to Rome and then to Apulia, Italy, where there were ports of embarkation for the Holy Land. It was known in Italy as the "Via Francigena" ("the road that comes from France") or the "Via Romea Francigena" ("the road to Rome that comes from France"). In medieval times it was an important road and pilgrimage route for those wishing to visit the Holy See and the tombs of the apostles Peter and Paul." (from Wikipedia)

I personally have done the Via Francigena all along from the Swiss borders till Rome. This time however we organized a sport trips for students to walk from the Castel Gandolfo lake to Nemi Lake, which is a very easy and pleasant hiking path among the beautiful woods and by the sides of both lakes. With the students it's always fun to go hiking, even though it is sometimes pretty tough to organize and follow up with the different level of sport preparation of each student.
My colleague and friend Max is always the best, fun and most friendly chaperone every student will ever have! Hiking with him and chaperoning students around Italian hiking paths is the best way and funniest way to accomplish our work. I will never have a single day of sadness or boredom!!
Since we usually go hiking around paths near Rome, sometimes we invite our friends to join us with our group of students and so that time also a couple of friends of Max's and their baby joined us! It was very fun having them with us too!
The coolest part of this hiking is the finding of very precious and beautiful plants, such as this butcher's broom. I love it because it reminds of my childhood when my parents used to "illegally" collect some to make a flowerbed in our beach house courtyard. It really makes me smile every time I see some butcher's broom around!
In some parts, the path is very easy, clean and beautiful because it literally goes through the woods and then it opens up to wider areas of leafless trees.
Spring was just around the corner since we went hiking on March 5th. Indeed, also the temperature was pretty warm, not full Spring but you could tell the atmosphere was almost there thanks to the first blossomed flowers and green leaves on the trees... some shy colors were giving us a good mood, even though on those days, I remember, the beginning of the war was the only dark thing on everybody's mind.

Also my boss and his baby joined us! So happy to have both of them walking with us!
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemi"Nemi village is famous for being the villa of strawberries, because in the area nearby it is very common to find wild strawberries which are so sweet and great to make delicious jams, which is the best topping for the famous "crostatine". Indeed, if you need to take a break, you do not want to miss the exquisite crostatina with strawberry jam. You won't regret it! Nemi is also very good for the steak and pork lovers because it is part of the Castelli Romani area, the higher part of the Roman countryside, where the famous "porchetta" is the top delicacy.
After the (not very) long walk, we literally had a food coma at a restaurant near the center of the town which was so good! After the very Italian lunch, we kept going around, visiting the village and down going down the lake side, enjoying the golden hour coming down from the sky.
It was amazing to be able to see the sea from the lake of Nemi: once again, mounts, lakes and and sea sides are all on the same line, aligned to the most peaceful way of the Earth showing its majestic wonder.
It was quite a blast to head this group of students: they were all pretty sportive and interesting, cool to talk to and fun to have around. We were lucky also in that sense; sometimes in fact you do not decide with whom to work with and your "clients" can happen to be complete asshole, rude or, may be worse, anti-sport!
Our day was basically over when we tool the last pictures along the lake of Nemi, where in Summer we are used to hang around and sunbathing, but of course in March it's too soon and cold and it's just ok to stand and admire the water surface at sunset.
Our photographic journey is over yet! I hope you enjoyed being brought around these Two Lakes and along this small part of Via Francigena. Ciao a tutti e ben tornati nel mio blog fotografico! So che è passato un po' di tempo ma devo dire che sto attraversando un periodo un po' difficile, il mio corpo ha bisogno di alcuni controlli e anche psicologicamente parlando non mi sento benissimo. Tuttavia, volevo davvero condividere alcune belle foto che ho salvato su una bozza almeno un paio di settimane fa. Sei mai stato a Castel Gandolfo e al Lago di Nemi? Oggi vi porterò a visitare entrambi i laghi, lungo il sentiero della Via Francigena che abbiamo camminato con un gruppo di studenti della mia università, dove lavoro al Dipartimento sportivo. Come al solito, spero che il viaggio fotografico vi piaccia!
Via Francigena è "un'antica strada e itinerario di pellegrinaggio che parte dalla città cattedrale di Canterbury in Inghilterra, attraverso la Francia e la Svizzera, fino a Roma e poi in Puglia, in Italia, dove c'erano porti di imbarco per la Terra Santa. Era conosciuta in Italia come la "Via Francigena" ("la strada che viene dalla Francia ") o la "Via Romea Francigena" ("la strada per Roma che viene dalla Francia"). Io personalmente ho percorso la Via Francigena dai confini svizzeri fino a Roma. Questa volta però abbiamo organizzato una gita sportiva per gli studenti a piedi dal lago di Castel Gandolfo al Lago di Nemi, che è un percorso escursionistico molto facile e piacevole tra i bellissimi boschi e lungo le sponde di entrambi i laghi. Con gli studenti è sempre divertente fare escursioni, anche se a volte è piuttosto difficile organizzare e seguire il diverso livello di preparazione sportiva di ogni studente.
Il mio collega e amico Max è sempre l'accompagnatore migliore, il più divertente e amichevole che ogni studente avrà mai! Camminare con lui e accompagnare gli studenti nei sentieri escursionistici italiani è il modo migliore e più divertente per portare a termine il nostro lavoro. Non avrò mai un solo giorno di tristezza o noia grazie a lui!!
Dato che di solito andiamo a fare escursioni nei sentieri vicino a Roma, a volte invitiamo i nostri amici a unirsi a noi con il nostro gruppo di studenti e così quella volta anche un paio di amici di Max e il loro bambino si sono uniti a noi! È stato molto divertente anche averli con noi!
La parte più bella di questa escursione è il ritrovamento di piante molto preziose e belle, come questo pungitopo. Lo adoro perché mi ricorda la mia infanzia quando i miei genitori ne raccoglievano "illegalmente" alcuni per fare un'aiuola nel cortile della nostra casa al mare. Mi fa davvero sorridere ogni volta che vedo qualche pungitopo in giro!
In alcuni tratti il sentiero è molto facile, pulito e bello perché attraversa letteralmente il bosco e poi si apre a zone più ampie e ariose.
La primavera era alle porte visto che quando abbiamo fatto l'escursione era il 5 marzo. Effettivamente anche la temperatura era abbastanza calda, non in piena primavera ma si vedeva che l'atmosfera era quasi arrivata grazie ai primi fiori sbocciati e alle foglie verdi sugli alberi... alcuni colori timidi ci davano il buon umore, anche se in quei giorni, ricordo, l'inizio della guerra era l'unica cosa oscura nella mente di tutti.

Anche il mio capo e suo figlio si sono uniti a noi! Ero così felice di averli entrambi a passeggio con noi!
<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemi"Nemi il paese è famoso per essere la città delle fragole, perché nella zona circostante è molto comune trovare le fragoline di bosco così dolci e ottime per fare deliziose marmellate, che è il miglior condimento per le famose "crostatine". Se avete bisogno di una pausa, infatti, non potete perdervi la squisita crostatina con marmellata di fragole. Non te ne pentirai! Nemi è molto buona anche per gli amanti della bistecca e del maiale perché fa parte della zona dei Castelli Romani, la parte alta della Campagna romana, dove la famosa "porchetta" è la vera prelibatezza.
Dopo la (non molto) lunga passeggiata, siamo letteralmente entrati in un food coma in un ristorante vicino al centro della città, che era davvero buono! Dopo il pranzo italianissimo, abbiamo continuato a girare, visitare il paese e scendere lungo la sponda del lago, godendoci l'ora d'oro che scende dal cielo.
È stato incredibile poter vedere il mare dal lago di Nemi: ancora una volta monti, laghi e sponde sono tutti sulla stessa linea, allineati al modo più tranquillo che la Terra usa per mostrare la sua maestosa meraviglia.
È stato un vero spasso dirigere questo gruppo di studenti: erano tutti piuttosto sportivi e interessanti, simpatici con cui parlare e divertenti da avere intorno. Siamo stati fortunati anche in questo senso; a volte infatti non sei tu a decidere con chi lavorare e i tuoi "clienti" possono essere dei veri stronzi, maleducati o, peggio ancora, anti-sport!
La nostra giornata era praticamente finita quando abbiamo scattato le ultime foto lungo il lago di Nemi, dove d'estate siamo soliti gironzolare e prendere il sole, ma ovviamente a marzo è troppo presto e fa freddo e va bene stare in piedi e ammirare la superficie dell'acqua al tramonto.
Il nostro viaggio fotografico è finito! Spero che vi sia piaciuto essere portato in giro per questi Due Laghi e lungo questo piccolo tratto della Via Francigena. Per me è stato un vero piacere condividere con voi tutta la mia esperienza e il lavoro che svolgo per la mia università.
