Last Sunday I presented my camera rotation project to you
here in the HIVE blog. With this technique, the camera is rotated around its own axis during an exposure. This often yields surprising, kaleidoscopic results.

hier im HIVE-Blog mein Kamerarotation-Projekt vor. Bei dieser Technik wird die Kamera während einer Belichtung um die eigene Achse gedreht. Dabei erzielt man oft überraschende, kaleidoskopische Ergebnisse.

Last week an attempt to capture the WESTFIELD Donau Zentrum in Vienna in full light using a camera rotation failed because the lights went out just before I could pull the shutter. So I started a little earlier the next evening. In the image above, I rotated the camera in 30° increments with the lens closed. In each position I changed the focal length with the lens open. This is how the zoom effect came about. Below you can see the same scene without the zoom effect.
Letzte Woche schlug ein Versuch, das WESTFIELD Donau Zentrum in Wien, bei voller Beleuchtung mit Hilfe einer Kamerarotation in Szene zu setzen, fehl, weil die Beleuchtung kurz bevor ich den Auslöser betätigen konnte, das Licht ausgeschaltet wurde. Also startete ich am nächsten Abend etwas früher. Im Bild oben rotierte ich die Kamera in 30° -Schritten bei geschlossener Linse. In jeder Position veränderte ich die Brennweite bei offener Linse. So entstand der Zoom-Effekt. Unten seht ihr die gleiche Szene ohne Zoom-Effekt.

Below I show the scene without rotation. I also used a polarizing filter during the recording to make the blue appear a little stronger and to improve the contours of the clouds.
Unten zeige ich die Szene ohne Rotation. Ich habe während der Aufnahmen zusätzlich ein Polfilter eingesetzt, um das Blau etwas kräftiger erscheinen zu lassen und die Konturen der Wolken zu verbessern.

The image below shows my rotation tool.
I mounted on my Manfrotto 055 carbon tripod a
LEOFOTO tripod panorama head G2+NP-60. There is a horizontal and vertical adjustment screw on this head. This allows very precise adjustment of the position of the camera. I mounted a Neewer carbon fiber gimbal on it. The part is relatively light. Once set to the camera, this tool is always ready for a quick camera rotation.

Auf mein Manfrotto 055 Carbon Stativ montierte ich einen
LEOFOTO Stativ-Panoramakopf G2+NP-60. Es gibt eine horizontale und vertikale Justageschraube an diesem Kopf. Damit ist eine sehr präzise Justage der Position der Kamera möglich. Darauf montierte ich ein Gimbal aus Kohle Faser der Marke Neewer. Das Teil ist relativ leicht. Einmal für die Kamera justiert, ist dieses Tool jederzeit schnell einsatzbereit für eine Kamerarotation.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?
Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
