Stormy Streets | Capturing Moments Amidst the Chaos

Hello, fellow photography enthusiasts and street photography aficionados! Yesterday, I ventured into the heart of a predicted tempest, hoping to capture some unpredictable moments and the raw beauty of human interaction with the mighty nature. It was a day of storm and rain, where the streets transformed into a chaotic canvas of intertwining stories, where people sought refuge from the pouring rain, leaves surrendered to the wind, but the city's spirit endured.

Rainy weather has always created a special drive in me, always inviting me out and allowing my creativity to express itself easier than in regular conditions. Even though I failed my challenge sooner than it begun, days like these motivate me to start over again.

The storm started while I was in the bus driving to the city. It broke suddenly as we were crossing the bridge and I can see huge, biblical waves raising on the Danube river and only white, stormy clouds in the distance. In the split second of walking to another bus that drives downtown I was completely drenched. People were screaming, running for any sort of cover, but no shelter could help much in this situation. These moments were far too chaotic for me try and capture anything, I was just trying to keep myself and the camera safe.

As I got to the city the storm subsided and it was manageable to walk around and stay relatively dry. Consequences of the storm that just ended have been visible. As I walked through the streets there were things thrown, fallen, broken all over the place. Broken ceramic tree pots, upside down sales stalls, cafe parasols in disarray. There aren't many trees in the center, but the torn out branches covered the pavement.

There aren't many umbrellas open, which is something I always like to photograph. The storm took people by surprise and then left quickly as it came. I took the opportunity to blend into the surroundings and capture authentic moments of vulnerability and resilience and the power of nature that tried to tell it's story. As the quote by the anonymous author says:

"Why do you like thunderstorms?” “Because it shows that even nature needs to scream sometimes."

I'm leaving you with these aftermath photos that I've taken with Fuji X-Pro2 and 35mm lens. Hope you enjoy! :)
