The yeasts are in!!! (Technically the ale yeast has been ordered but not yet received)
This is a short post, just taking inventory of the yeasts we’ll be using. I debated saving the draft until I had the juice too, but decided to break it apart in case any one out there is wanting to follow along at home.
Packaging | Brand/Type | Intended Use | Apx Cost/Pk |
---|---|---|---|
Fleischmann’s Active Dry Yeast | Baking/Bread | $0.70/pk | |
Fleischmann’s Rapid Rise Yeast | Baking/Bread | $0.70/pk | |
Red Star Active Dry Yeast | Baking/Bread | $0.70/pk | |
Red Star Rapid Rise Yeast | Baking/Bread | $0.70/pk | |
Red Star Premier Classique Active Dry Yeast | Wine | $0.75/pk | |
SafAle US-04 | Ale | $4/pk | |
FermFast 24 HR Turbo Yeast | Distilling | $8/pk |
So these are the yeasts I’ll be using this time. I’ll only be using ~1/4 of the Turbo Yeast package, so it might be more accurate to price that one at &1/pk.
Bread/baking yeasts you can get at the grocery store, the wine and ale yeasts can be found at northern brewer, eBay or Amazon - among others I’m sure.
I’m going to be getting 6 bottles of Aldi strawberry lemonade. Last time I saw this, it was pasteurized with no preservatives and it fermented very nicely. But if you’re following along at home, use literally any juice you want. Some will be better than others, but once I find the right yeast, I’ll start experimenting with different juices and varying sugar additions.
Thanks for checking it out, I’m excited to get the juice and kick this experiment into gear!
