Ya hoy es martes 22 de Noviembre 2022, ¡Guaooo! Tengo casi un mes que no vengo al Three Tune Tuesday, espacio creado por @ablaze, para que podamos compartir tres buenas canciones, que nos gusten y que sean significativas para cada uno nosotros; y bueno, aquí estoy, otra vez con ustedes y mis acetatos, jajajaja.
Today is Tuesday November 22, 2022, Wow! It's been almost a month since I came to Three Tune Tuesday, a space created by @ablaze, so we can share three good songs that we like and that are meaningful to each of us; and well, here I am, again with you and my vinyl, hahahaha.
Siendo martes de #ttt les traigo canciones que fueron importantes para mí, y hoy invité a Billy Ocean este estupendo cantante oriundo de la vecina isla de Trinidad y Tobago, pero quien actualmente tiene nacionalidad británica, quien nos deleitó en muchas ocasiones con su bonita voz, sus hermosas canciones y su gran energía. Este disco que les comparto, lo compré luego de haber sido editado, ya que salió en 1988, pero recuerdo haberlo comprado en 1992, cuatro años después, igualmente lo disfruté mucho en su momento.
Being #ttt Tuesday I bring you songs that were important to me, and today I invited Billy Ocean this wonderful singer from the neighboring island of Trinidad and Tobago, but who currently has British nationality, who delighted us on many occasions with his beautiful voice, his beautiful songs and his great energy. I bought this record that I'm sharing with you after it was released, since it came out in 1988, but I remember buying it in 1992, four years later, I still enjoyed it a lot at the time.
Como mucha de la música que yo oía de adolescente y joven, a Billy Ocean tuve el gusto de conocerlo en algún programa de las emisoras radiales de mi ciudad aproximadamente en 1985, gracias a su gran éxito Caribbean Queen (quién no recuerda esta canción). Recuerdo que en aquel entonces abundaban estaciones radiales A.M. y luego, creo que en los 90 o tempranos 2000, surgieron las estaciones F.M.; bueno, en todo caso lo cierto es que me gustó mucho esa voz tan particular y esa cadencia al cantar, y si bien no todas sus canciones eran de mi gusto, hay varias que me gustaron mucho, al punto de comprar uno de sus discos.
Like much of the music that I listened to as a teenager and young man, I had the pleasure of meeting Billy Ocean in a program on the radio stations in my city around 1985, thanks to his great success Caribbean Queen (who doesn't remember this song). I remember that at that time there were many radio stations A.M. and then, I think in the 1990s or early 2000s, the F.M. stations came along; well, In any case, the truth is that I really liked that particular voice and that cadence when singing, and although not all of his songs were to my taste, there are several that I really liked, to the point of buying one of his vinyls.
Cuando compré este disco yo ya me ganaba mi sustento y vivía fuera de la casa de mis padres, y bueno, recuerdo que estas compras las hacía generalmente los sábados en la tarde, que era el momento para salir a cierta zona comercial de mi ciudad y poder recorrer algunas tiendas, comerme un helado, y caminar mientras observaba a la gente, era una actividad que disfrutaba en ese entonces. Así, que cuando fui a mi discotienda de siempre y rebusqué en la cesta en donde ponían los discos en oferta, y encontré este de Billy Ocean, lo tomé enseguida y me lo llevé. Era un disco con la carátula blanca, muy minimalista, con su fotografía en una composición blanco y negro con tonos azulados, su nombre en letras grandes en la parte superior y el nombre del álbum Tear down these walls con el mismo tipo de letra, en la parte inferior de la fotografía. La contraportada del disco guardaba la misma sobriedad, aunque aportaba datos como la casa que lo fabricó, en este caso CORDICA, citaba un artículo legal que prohibía la reproducción sin autorización de la obra, y un eslogan que llevaban muchos discos de la época, el que decía EL DISCO ES CULTURA, absolutamente cierto. También tenía marcado el número de Depósito Legal, que era algo que se exigía en mi país en ese entonces.
When I bought this album I was already earning my living and living outside my parents' house, and well, I remember that I generally did these purchases on Saturday afternoons, which was the time to go out to a certain commercial area in my city and being able to browse a few stores, eat an ice cream, and walk while people watching, was an activity I enjoyed back then. So, when I went to my usual disco store and rummaged through the basket where they put the records on sale, and I found this one by Billy Ocean, I immediately grabbed it and took it with me. It was an album with a white cover, very minimalist, with his photograph in a black and white composition with bluish tones, his name in large letters at the top and the name of the album Tear down these walls with the same font, at the bottom of the photograph. The back cover of the album kept the same sobriety, although it provided information such as the house that manufactured it, in this case CORDICA, citing a legal article that prohibited unauthorized reproduction of the work, and a slogan that carried many records of the time, the one that said THE RECORD IS CULTURE, absolutely true. It also had the Legal Deposit number marked, which was something that was required in my country at that time.
Y como en cada martes de #ttt hacemos un ejercicio de arqueología moderna, pues aquí vemos que este disco tiene un Precio Máximo de Venta al Público (P.M.V.P.), de Bs. 290,00 (claro, estaba remarcado porque lo compré años después de que estuviera nuevo a la venta), así que tomaré como referencia el año 1992 (año de su compra), por lo que en dólares americanos esta compra fue de 4,46 lo que era un precio aceptable para el momento. Lo que sí no recuerdo fue si me rebajaron aún más el precio, ya que estaba en la cesta de ofertas, quizás sí lo compré aún más barato. Con respecto al cancionero, sí lo traía como pueden ver en las fotos siguientes.
And since every Tuesday of #ttt we do a modern archeology exercise, here we see that this record has a Maximum Public Sale Price (P.M.V.P.), of Bs. 290.00 (of course the previous price was crossed out, because I bought it years ago after it was new for sale), so I will take as reference the year 1992 (year of its purchase), so in US dollars this purchase was 4.46, which was an acceptable price at that time. What I don't remember is that if they lowered the price more, as it was in the sale basket, maybe I did buy it even cheaper. Regarding the songbook, it did bring it as you can see in the following photos.
Otra información de interés que nos ofrece la contraportada, es el listado de las 10 canciones del LP, los datos de producción y arreglos del mismo, y hay un logotipo curioso que dice JIVE, que supongo es la casa discográfica original, aunque busqué en Internet y ví que también significa un baile de salón muy interesante, originario de Estados Unidos en la década de 1930, siendo una variante del swing. Al final de este post les dejo un par de video para que vean esta curiosidad.
Other information of interest that the back cover offers us is the list of the 10 songs on the LP, the production data and its arrangements, and there is a curious logo that says JIVE, which I suppose is the house original label, although I searched the Internet and saw that it also means a very interesting ballroom dance, originating in the United States in the 1930s, being a variant of swing. Ahora vamos con mis canciones / Now let's go with my songs
Como mencioné previamente, no es que me apasionen todas las canciones de Billy Ocean, pero como también he dicho en posts anteriores, siempre que compraba un vinilo, hacía mi respectivo ritual de oír todas las canciones, así no me gustasen, de tratar de entender sus letras, e ir saboreando cada una de las pistas, analizando (en mi cabeza), cómo sonaban los instrumentos por separado, y esto es algo que solía y aún suelo hacer, porque me permite apreciar mejor la base armónica de las canciones y disfrutar de cada elemento musical en particular, no me limito sólo a la voz, sino que analizo los instrumentos también. Así que al oír las canciones de este LP, me gustó la primera canción del lado A, la cual lleva el nombre del álbum Tear down these walls. Si bien la letra no es para lanzar cohetes, pues es muy sencilla, el ritmo es bueno, me gusta mucho el sonido de la batería, que es bastante cadencioso, también los eventuales matices que dan los sintetizadores, y la parte vocal que está chévere. Aquí les dejo un pedacito de la letra.
As I previously mentioned, it's not that I'm passionate about all of Billy Ocean's songs, but as I've also said in previous posts, whenever I bought vinyl, I did my respective ritual of listening to all the songs, even if I didn't like them, of trying to understand its lyrics, and savoring each of the tracks, analyzing (in my head), how the instruments sounded separately, and this is something I used to do and still do, because it allows me to better appreciate the harmonic base of the songs and enjoy of each musical element in particular, I do not limit myself only to the voice, but I analyze the instruments as well. So when hearing the songs on this LP, I liked the first song on side A, which is named after the album Tear down these walls. Although the lyrics are not something to write home about, they are very simple, the rhythm is good, I really like the sound of the drums, which is quite rhythmic, as well as the possible nuances that the synthesizers give, and the vocal part, which is cool. . Here I leave a little piece of the letter.
Ahora vamos a mi segunda canción de esta semana, y vamos al surco número 5 del lado A, con la famosa Calypso Crazy. Al igual que con la primera canción, que hoy comparto, en este caso no es que su letra me apasione, porque al parecer refleja la vida nocturna de un bailarín, su afición por la bebida, el juego y las chicas, pero sin duda la percusión de esta melodía es muy buena, por eso me gustó, presten atención a esa parte. También les traje un pedacito de letra.

As with the first song, which I am sharing today, in this case it is not that I am passionate about its lyrics, as it seems to reflect the night life of a dancer, his fondness for drinking, gambling and girls, but without a doubt the The percussion of this melody is very good, that's why I liked it, pay attention to that part. En esta ocasión también finalizaré con una hermosa balada, y se trata de la última pista del lado B, Here’s to you, una canción de amor bonito y de matrimonio, es una canción de compromiso, que me atrapó por su bella melodía y por su contenido. Aquí la voz de Ocean suena muy dulce, es realmente una bella canción. Veamos toda de su letra y también les dejo el video, que es básicamente el audio.
