Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!
This is my 26th week contributing to "Three Tune Tuesday", an initiative started by @ablaze. It is week 91 overall!
I am trying to stick to a set pattern, where I perform 2 cover songs (written by famous artists) and 1 original song (written by me [or us in this case]) around a theme.
This week, after doing two weeks of TTT with my friend @clairemobey to rehearse for our gig (as the duo "MobeyDick", I am back on my own. Today I am choosing the grave theme of "Death" to base my three song set around.
During my last solo set, I mentioned that I had run out of finished original songs. Getting to play with @clairemobey meant we got to sing a couple of her original songs instead! Now, I have no choice but to reveal a new "work-in-progress" original song, but let's get through the two cover songs first!
For the first cover song, I am going to think of the band "Death Cab for Cutie" and their album "Plans", which seemed to deal with the theme of death a lot. The most appropriate song for me to attempt is "I will Follow You into the Dark" - here is the original version of the song:
For the second cover song I would like to do "Jackie". This song about a woman who becomes a ghost searching the shores for Jackie who never came back from sailing the seas is originally by Sinead o'Connor, but the version I heard first is a cover version by Placebo, which I think is fantastic!

With the two covers out of the way, it is time for me to scribble a few verses to match the idea and rough chorus I seem to be coming up with for a new song... Let's call it "Baby Don't Cry" for now. The big decision that had to be made, is who passed away such that the narrator is trying to comfort a child...
