MUSIC: Three Tune Tuesday 127 - 3 Songs on the Theme of “Cinema!” (Hive Open Mic Week 186)

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

This is my 62nd week in a row contributing to "Three Tune Tuesday", an initiative started by @ablaze. It is week 127 overall!

My current pattern for how I will be contributing to TTT is to take the Hive Open Mic challenge Theme of the Week and give suggestions on how I would tackle it!

For those of you who are not familiar, the Hive Open Mic is a weekly challenge on the Hive Open Mic community for anybody who loves to sing. You don’t even need to play an instrument, a backing track or a cappella is also fine as far as I can tell!

Different artists are given the chance to choose a “Theme of the Week” that the posts should be based on. Often it can be difficult for people to think about easy songs that might fit that theme… so let me see if I can be of any assistance to the people who still might not know what to try by the time Tuesday comes around!

All right! Let’s get cracking!

Here is the post inviting everyone to participate in this week’s Hive Open Mic (Week 186):

As you can see, it was the turn of @mairene1 to pick a theme, and this week the theme is “Cinema”!

Oooh, this is quite an easy one, even if I discount all the songs from the Disney movies that we needed to visit when the theme was “Disney” not too long ago!

Even besides those songs, there are still so many songs that are unforgettable as they helped create the wonderful scenes from the movies that we remember them from!

Like the “Disney” theme, I feel tempted to give some “honourable mentions”:

•“Eye of the Tiger” from the “Rocky” training montages!
•“Don’t You (Forget About Me) from “The Breakfast Club”
•“(I’ve Had) The Time of my Life” from “Dirty Dancing”
•“New Slang (by The Shins)” from “Garden State”

But there can only be three… three classics that people should be able to have a good go at covering…

How about “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion from the Titanic movie? This is an unforgettable melody that you should easily remember, but can you pull it off? Here’s the original:

Another classic lovey-dovey movie moment is the first time Lady Gaga’s character is invited onto the stage by Bradley Cooper’s rock star character to sing her own song, fleshed out by the full band… I am talking about the now famous “Shallow”. @Clairemobey and I have already done a duet of this one here: (@jasperdick/psdcpmvn)

But you can check out the original here:

Finally, if you’re hoping to have a bit of fun, how about the moment from “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” where they are busting out their version of “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor in the middle of the Australian Outback? I always love how accepting their audience is in this scene!

So that's week 127 done and dusted! I hope that gave some people some ideas on how to tackle the Hive Open Mic Challenge this week? Perhaps I’ve even inspired one or two new people to give it a try? Please let me know!
