I've been collecting records for as long as I can remember, and sometimes it's easy to skip over things, and forget what you've got. I'm going to start listening to things in alphabetical order, it give me a chance to look through my collection again, and give me an opportunity to share things with other music lovers, and vinyl collectors.
The rules are simple, I will start at A, and choose an artist from my collection beginning with that letter, next day I move on to B, then C, etc.
The story so far...
- A is for... Adam and the Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier
- B is for... The Beatles - Abbey Road
- C is for... The Chemical Brothers - Exit Planet Dust
- D is for... Nick Drake - Bryter Layter
- E is for... Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music for Airports
- F is for... Mark Fry - Dreaming With Alice
- G is for... Gong - Flying Teapot
- H is for... Richie Havens - Alarm Clock
- I is for... Incredible String Band - Wee Tam
- J is for... Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene
K is for...
The KLF - The White Room
I've been looking forwards to posting this one, one of the gems in my collection. I've been fascinated by The KLF for many years, their approach to music, celebrity and art runs a lot deeper than you might imagine from this record, but there's many strings to their bow, so to speak. I'd highly recommend this book by John Higgs if you want to learn a little about their story.
Back in the 90's they were one of the biggest bands around, with some hit singles under the aliases of The Timelords, The JAMs, and The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, as well as The KLF.
They famously deleted their back catalogue back in the 90's, so their music is a little hard to come by. I'm luckily enough to own an original copy of The White Room, their most commercial release, featuring classics like 3 AM Eternal, Justified and Ancient and What Time is Love?
So if you haven't experienced The KLF, then you're in for a treat, hold tight, here we go...
