indian curry
we had lunch at shinjuku in one of the many cozy restaurants. this time, indian food.
one of my friends chose this specific shop because of these yellow(?!? correct my colorblindness please) seals of approval from some food critics. this shop got it for three consecutive years now, that is surely a feat.
here is the proof of that cozy interior. with two tables and counter seats, the shop can only entertain few customers at a time. we were glad to be seated right away when we arrived.
and here is the food, it was my first to eat beans curry. i have cooked monggo (mung beans) at home and added curry rue as flavor, but i had no idea that someone else have thought of that. my culinary ideas could have been awarded with that seal of approval, too. as i took a picture of the food, i was reminded of a reel which showed some key food photography differences between, boomers millennials and gen-z folks. boomers tend to take a very wide shot (including the table), millennials have a very clear picture of the food and plating, and gen-z takes a close up of the food. guess which one i was trying to be?
shinjuku stroll
since we were already in shinjuku, might as well take a stroll of the place. we entered shops after shops, some bought stuff. i was just there to enjoy the cool autumn breeze.
as always, shinjuku is full of people. everywhere you look at, you see people. i guess the only time it was a bit empty was during the pandemic. now, business is really back to normal.
we finally waited in line at a coffee shop, and i got the inspiration to take a photo of this escalator.
at a brooklyn coffee shop
the shop we went into was brooklyn inspired. it had a huge map of new york at the waiting area, that made the waiting a bit fun. as a geography lover, this map kept me busy. new york had two airports, a bunch of parks, and lots and lots of cemeteries. that might be awful to remember but the cemeteries were in a different color which stood out from the map.
cafe latte was finally served, and i was pleased to see a coffee art. it took a while before i finally took the courage to destroy my "heart". that was so dramatic of me, hope you will bear me with me.
the shop had a public library feel to it. and it made me feel sleepy, not to say that libraries and books make me feel sleepy, but the lighting was perfect for sleeping. the coffee had no effect to wake me up. there were a couple of magazines and books and i'm sure you can try to read some. if i were alone i would probably do so, but we were there busy discussing a trip for this month end.
music
after the coffee, some more clothes shopping, and dinner (as shared in snaps), finally decided to head to the station. we were ready to call it a night when we heard some live music playing nostalgic disco songs.
this was not some ordinary busking musician, but they knew of their audience. shinjuku is home lots of foreigners just enjoying the many shops, and this band played into their hearts. feel good disco english music was very refreshing to hear in tokyo. the crowd loved them! and so did we.
we stayed till the very end. we danced and head bopped a bit. and of course, i sang some lines. my millennial heart was appeased, and my feet were glued. the band had a cd and people who donated 1000 yen can get 1 for free, my friend took one. who cares? -- what a title. lae was the band name, probably consisting of their names' initials. a drummer, keyboardist, and guitarist, and all three could sing and harmonize. they certainly drew a huge crowd, most were foreigners who fell in their laid out trap. but then again, who cares? we had a great time listening, so who cares?
that ended my shinjuku trip this time.
