Se había quedado dormido en el viejo sillón del abuelo Julio, después del almuerzo. En pocas ocasiones optaba por sentarse en el sillón que, a pesar de sus muchos años, lucía como un mueble nuevo. Optaba por el sillón para reposar o leer algún documento cuando tenía obligación de salir de la casa para regresar a la oficina o acudir a una reunión vespertina: era la mejor opción para evitar la cama.

El sillón estaba ubicado en un corredor interno, de la segunda planta, de la amplia casa que fue del abuelo paterno, muy cerca de la gran biblioteca-habitación de su abuelo Julio que permanecía cerrada. Este mueble de estilo clásico de gran lujo, pertenecía a la familia de su padre; el prestigioso abogado y docente universitario Julio Roscio.

-¿Qué te sucede? Como que te cayó mal la comida; estás pálido y sudoroso, nervioso, ¿Vas a salir así?- preguntó su esposa Greta mientras le entregaba una pequeña toalla.

-Apenas me senté, recordé las palabras de mi padre, siempre me decía a mí y a mi hermana Emma: “No se sienten en el sillón después de comer, ni a la medianoche”; yo preguntaba el porqué y él me respondía riendo que no lo sabía, que así se lo ordenó su padre y también su abuelo y él obedecía sin protestar ni rechistar. También me dijo en otra ocasión, que básicamente ese sillón era para aquellos que estuvieran preparados para comprender el paso del tiempo, el devenir y el porvenir- Respondió Julio devolviéndole la toalla a Greta, a quien besó en ambas mejillas y se dirigió a la habitación principal.

Greta siguió a su esposo y esperó sentada en la cama a que éste saliera del baño. Cuando Julio salió del baño, ella le entregó la chaqueta:

-¿Qué soñaste en el sillón? ¿Qué viste en el sueño?- Preguntó mirándole a los ojos.

-Soñé con un cortejo que pasaba por una calle, todos con aspecto triste, gente que lloraba quedo, caminaban lentamente y los que hablaban lo hacían murmurando, yo sentía que estaba ahí parado viendo pasar el desfile de los dolientes y todos se volteaban a verme cuando pasaban. Era una multitud realmente, vestidos con ropas oscuras y de repente ví a mi hermana Emma y a mi padre que se acercaban a mi y desperté asustado- Respondió Julio, ya con un aspecto más normal, pero su rostro entristeció al recordar a su hermana y a su padre.

-Tengo entendido que tu padre y mucho antes tu bisabuelo, murieron en ese sillón- Dijo Gretta – También sé que ellos mantenían la prohibición a las mujeres para que no se sentaran en ese sillón. Sospecho que la desaparición de tu hermana Emma tiene que ver con este sillón. Ella debió desobedecer la prohibición.

-¿Cómo dices eso?; yo no te he prohibido nada; esta es nuestra casa, nuestro hogar. Si mantengo ese mueble es por su valor artístico y porque ha estado muchos años en el patrimonio de la familia. No temas ni creas en leyendas. Emma desapareció, probablemente fue secuestrada. Si lo deseas, cuando quieras, puedes hacer tus lecturas o tu descanso en ese mueble, a la hora que quieras- Dijo Julio dirigiéndose a la puerta principal donde lo esperaba su chofer.

-¿No crees en el viaje a otros tiempos? ¿No existen para tí las dimensiones paralelas?- le preguntó Greta, cuando el joven abría la puerta.

-Claro que creo; cuando voy a un museo o galería de arte no puedo evitar trasladarme a otro tiempo, a otro mundo; lo mismo cuando salgo a pasear en el Mustang 75 que me dejó papá, solo los viejitos se me acercan para preguntarme cómo lo conservo nuevo y preguntan quién era su dueño original. Ese antiguo sillón representa un pasado remoto, mi bisabuelo y mi papá murieron de un infarto, descansando en el sillón; pero yo no los recuerdo por ese sillón sino porque me formaron y me dieron las bases para vivir mi presente y mejorar mi futuro. Tú eres parte de mi presente y de mi futuro. Esos son los tiempos que cuentan para mí.

Gretta quedó en la gran sala pensando en las últimas palabras que dijo su amoroso esposo antes de irse. Sintió vergüenza y no pudo contener el llanto; porque nunca ha podido decirle la verdad por completo: ella solía sentarse en este sillón desde hace cien años atrás, cuando era una niña, en la carpintería de su padre G. Capello, en Argentina y un día despertó en esta enorme casa, en Caracas,y Julio, el abuelo, la adoptó y le dio buena crianza y educación; porque no pudo, en varios intentos, devolverla a su tiempo. Con toda seguridad su cuñada Emma quien, igual que ella, solía sentarse en el sillón a escondidas del abuelo; se encontraba perdida en algún tiempo y espacio distantes a éste, en algún lugar del mundo donde hubiese otro sillón Capello.

He had fallen asleep in Grandpa Julio's old armchair after lunch. Rarely did he opt to sit in the leather and mahogany armchair which, despite its many years, looked like a new piece of furniture. He opted for the armchair to rest or read a document when he had to leave the house to return to the office or attend an evening meeting: it was the best option to avoid the bed.

The armchair was located in an internal corridor, on the second floor, of the large house that belonged to his paternal grandfather, very close to the large library-room of his grandfather Julio, which remained closed. This luxurious classic style piece of furniture belonged to her father's family; the prestigious lawyer and university professor Julio Roscio.

- What's wrong with you? You look pale and sweaty, nervous, are you going out like that?" asked his wife Greta as she handed him a small towel.

-As soon as I sat down, I remembered my father's words, he always told me and my sister Emma: "Don't sit on the couch after eating, not even at midnight"; I would ask why and he would answer me laughing that he didn't know, that his father and also his grandfather ordered him to do so and he obeyed without protesting or complaining. He also told me on another occasion, that basically that armchair was for those who were prepared to understand the passing of time, the becoming and the future," Julio answered, returning the towel to Greta, whom he kissed on both cheeks and went to the main room.

Greta followed her husband and sat on the bed waiting for him to come out of the bathroom. When Julio came out of the bathroom, she handed him the jacket:

-What did you dream about on the couch? What did you see in the dream?" she asked looking into his eyes.

-I dreamt of a procession passing down a street, all looking sad, people crying quietly, walking slowly and those who spoke did so while mumbling, I felt I was standing there watching the parade of mourners go by and they all turned to look at me as they passed. It was a crowd really, dressed in dark clothes and suddenly I saw my sister Emma and my father coming towards me and I woke up scared- Julio answered, already looking more normal, but his face saddened as he remembered his sister and father.

-I understand that your father, and much earlier your great-grandfather, died in that chair," said Gretta, "I also know that they kept women from sitting in that chair. I suspect that the disappearance of your sister Emma has to do with this chair. She must have disobeyed the prohibition.

-How can you say that? I have not forbidden you anything; this is our house, our home. If I keep this piece of furniture, it is because of its artistic value and because it has been in the family's patrimony for many years. Don't be afraid or believe in legends. Emma disappeared, she was probably kidnapped. If you wish, whenever you want, you can do your readings or rest in that piece of furniture, at any time you want," said Julio heading to the front door where his driver was waiting for him.

-Don't you believe in traveling to other times, don't parallel dimensions exist for you," asked Greta, as the young man opened the door.

-Of course I believe; when I go to a museum or an art gallery I can't help but be transported to another time, to another world; the same when I go for a ride in the 75 Mustang that Dad left me, only old people come up to me to ask me how I keep it new and ask who its original owner was. My grandfather and my father died of a heart attack, resting; but I don't remember them because of that chair, but because they formed me and gave me the basis to live my present and improve my future. You are part of my present and my future. Those are the times that count for me.

Gretta stood in the great room thinking about the last words her loving husband said before he left. She felt ashamed and could not hold back the tears; because she has never been able to tell him the whole truth: she used to sit in this armchair a hundred years ago, when she was a child, in the carpentry shop of her father G. Capello, in Argentina and one day she woke up in this huge house and Julio, the grandfather, adopted her and gave her good upbringing and education; because he could not, in several attempts, bring her back to her time. Surely her sister-in-law Emma, who, like her, used to sit in the armchair behind her grandfather's back, was lost in some distant time and space, somewhere in the world where there was another Capello armchair.}}
