Hace muchos años teníamos un auto. Mi esposo lo compró usado y en él hicimos nuestro primer viaje de vacaciones con los niños. Viajamos de Cumaná a Caracas y pasamos allá unos cuantos días compartiendo con amigos que son familia. Pero está foto no es de ese día, aunque el auto de la foto si es el mismo.
Esta foto debe ser más o menos del año 2002 o 2003, un poco antes de que empezaramos a construir nuestra casa. Habiamos ido a verificar unas cosas en el terreno para un papeleo que debíamos tramitar.
Cada vez que íbamos al terreno (como decían mis hijos) ellos la pasaban muy bien y aprovechaban de comer los heladitos de coco y otras frutas que vendía una de las vecinas.
Ese auto nos llevó y nos trajo durante mucho tiempo, aunque también nos dió muchos dolores de cabeza. Para tener auto hay que poner en una balanza los gastos que te ahorra vs los gastos que te genera y ver qué resulta más rentable.
Cuando finalmente lo vendimos, más era el tiempo que pasaba averiado que funcionando y necesitaba una fuerte inversión para ponerlo en condiciones. El dinero que nos pagaron por él lo invertimos en trabajos que hacían falta en la casa, como por ejemplo terminar los baños, lo cual mejoró mucho nuestra calidad de vida.
Unos años después cuando empezó la escasez de combustible fue un alivio no tener esa preocupación. Igual cuando hay escasez de combustible te afecta aunque no tengas auto, pero en menor medida.
Me encanta ver a mis hijos en viejas fotos, ver cómo fueron creciendo y revivir memorias de esos días que a veces me parecen lejanos y otras me parecen que fueron ayer.

Many years ago we had a car. My husband bought it used and we took our first vacation trip with the kids in it. We traveled from Cumaná to Caracas and spent a few days there sharing with friends who are family. But this photo is not from that day, although the car in the photo is the same one.
This photo must be from around 2002 or 2003, a little before we started building our house. We had gone to check some things on the land for some paperwork we had to process.
Every time we went to the farm (as my children said) they had a great time and took advantage of eating the coconut ice cream and other fruits that one of the neighbors sold.
That car took us back and forth for a long time, although it also gave us many headaches. To have a car you have to weigh up the expenses it saves you vs. the expenses it generates and see what is more profitable.
When we finally sold it, it was more often broken than working and needed a large investment to get it in good condition. The money they paid us for it we invested in work that was needed at home, such as finishing the bathrooms, which greatly improved our quality of life.
A few years later when the fuel shortage began it was a relief not to have that worry. The same when there is a fuel shortage it affects you even if you don't have a car, but to a lesser extent.
I love seeing my children in old photos, seeing how they grew up and reliving memories of those days that sometimes seem far away and other times seem like they were yesterday.
