Carlos Yulo, a Filipino gymnast is now trending all over social media for two (2) reasons.
He won two (2) gold medals in the artistic gymnastics’ competition in the Olympic games in Paris this year. Prior to this, he already bagged awards for several floor exercises, vault and parallel bars in Sea Games, Asian Championships Games, and World Championship Games.
His achievements make him the most talked about athlete now internationally. Of course, this gives the Philippines so much pride after Hidilyn Diaz’s gold medal during the 2020 Summer Olympics for weightlifting.
Carlo did all his best to bring the Philippines to greater heights again and to inspire other promising athletes to never lose hope and just pursue their dreams with all humility and perseverance.
Unfortunately, in the middle of all the praises from all over the world, here comes his mother who made a scene in the social media bashing the girlfriend of Carlo Yulo as a “bad influence” to her son. The girl is a social media content creator who grew up in Australia.
The mother expressed her sentiments at the height of the public knowing all the incentives and awards that Carlos Yulo is soon to receive when he comes back to the Philippines.

After the mom’s exposure, Carlo replied about his finances claiming that his mom managed secretly. Of course, he also defended his girlfriend from whom he gets so much support since he started his Olympic journey.
When my friends kept talking about this in our group chat, I never bothered to join their exchange of opinions. I never want to talk about money especially if it involves family members. I always believed that family members should not make money prevail over their relationships. I also believe that family matters should be purely private!
Now, people are thinking that the mom is after all the money that Carlo is getting, and she does not want the girlfriend to benefit from it. She cries though that she just wants the best for her son. Carlo on the hand is firm in saying that his girlfriend has nothing to do with their estranged relationship.
I feel this is too low. I mean to talk about family relationships and destroying each other in front of others (especially involving money or wealth) is just like washing dirty laundry in public. I feel sad about any family doing this, because if there is anyone who should protect and understand us first, it should be our families.
We cannot discredit realities though that sometimes there are family members who get evil because of money, but if a ‘mother’ is involved, we cannot help elderly especially females to feel for the mom, but the young ones to feel for Carlo.
I think Carlo and her mom are carried away by their emotions AND their sense of entitlement. The mother for being one who gave birth to Carlo and Carlo now as an Olympic champion.
Indeed, there are mothers who interfere with their children’s affairs and feel that they OWN their children so they should control them, while there are children who, after reaching the adult stage, feel that they can already do EVERYTHING on their own, so they don’t need their moms anymore.
Carlo Yulo’s victory should be a national celebration, but the public’s attention is now diverted to how they treat each other as a family because of fame.
