Hello, back here again on TBT Thursdays, today I want to show you a little more of what my stay in Colombia was like a couple of years ago, as I still have many photos of that time which was a different experience for me, not only because I was in another country but because I was working as a nanny for my cousin's daughter, even though I had 0 experience looking after babies, so it was with her that I learned a lot of things.
Hola, de nuevo por aquí en los jueves de TBT, hoy quiero mostrarles un poco más de lo que fue mi estancia en Colombia hace un par años aproximadamente ya que aún me quedan muchas fotos de esa época que para mi fue una experiencia diferente, no solo porque yo estaba en otro país sino porque estaba trabajando como niñera de la hija de mi primo, aún y cuando yo tenía 0 experiencia cuidando bebés, así que fue con ella que prendí muchas cosas.
On her days off my cousin's wife would take me to see the city, sometimes we would go to Bogotá, the capital, and other times we would visit some places in the city where we lived (Soacha). Very close to the flat was a large shopping centre that I loved, not only because of the large amount of products it had, but also because it was beautifully decorated and there were many spots to take pictures, especially the ‘Feria del mundo’ (the world fair), so called because there were spots allegorical to several very touristy cities in the world.
En sus días libres la esposa de mi primo me llevaba a conocer la ciudad, algunas veces íbamos a Bogotá, la capital, y en otras ocasiones visitábamos algunos lugares en la ciudad donde vivíamos (Soacha) Muy cerca del apartamento estaba un gran centro comercial que me encantó, no solo por la gran cantidad de productos que tenía, sino porque estaba hermosamente decorado y había muchísimos spots para tomar fotografías, sobre todo me gustaba mucho la "Feria del mundo" llamada así porque eran spots alegóricos a varias ciudades muy turísticas del mundo.
I really liked that replica of the statue of liberty, and I honestly think that the pearl white colour suits it much better than the bluish green of the original, which is due to the influence of the saltpeter.
Me gustó mucho esa réplica de la estatua de la libertad, y honestamente creo que le sienta mucho mejor el color blanco perla que ese verde azulado que tiene la original, y que se debe a la influencia del salitre
There was also an area about China and its great wall but I couldn't get the pictures I took, only this one.
También había una zona referente a China y a su gran muralla pero no pude conseguir las fotografías que tomé, solo esta
But my favourite part was the London spot, with its red telephone boxes and the replica of Big Ben, which I hope to meet one day, God willing. On the other hand, I was very struck by the neatness and the amount of detail in the uniform worn by the mannequin, as it is exactly the same as the one worn by the King's real guard of honour.
Pero mi parte favorita fue el spot de Londres, con sus casetas de teléfono rojas y la réplica del Big Ben al que espero poder conocer algún día, Dios mediante. Por otra parte me llamó mucho la atención la prolijidad y la cantidad de detalles que tiene el uniforme que lleva el maniquí, pues es exactamente igual al que lleva la verdadera guardia de honor del Rey.
I never miss a nice place to take pictures, especially when they are aesthetics which was the look I was wearing at the time, so every now and then I would ask my cousin's wife to stop and take pictures.
Yo nunca desaprovecho un lugar bonito para tomar fotografías, sobre todo cuando son aesthetics que era el look que yo llevaba en ese momento, así que a cada rato le pedía a la esposa de mi primo que nos detuviéramos para tomar fotos
I already missed my country and especially its gastronomy, but if there is one thing that I really liked about Colombian gastronomy and that I cannot refute, it is coconut rice, which is not the same as what is usually eaten in Venezuela as a dessert (coconut rice and milk), but rather a savoury recipe, originally from the coasts, and my cousin (my cousin's wife) and I did not miss the opportunity to stop by a coastal restaurant to enjoy this delicious dish. My taste buds were dancing with joy, which made the lady who prepared it happy, as she knew that I am a chef and therefore have a trained palate. If I ever go back to Colombia for a visit, it is a must for me to go back to this restaurant.
Yo ya extrañaba mucho mi país y sobre todo la gastronomía pero si hay algo que me gustó mucho con respecto a la gastronomía colombiana y que no puedo refutar es el arroz con coco, el cual no es el mismo que se suele consumir en Venezuela como postre (arroz coco y leche) esta más bien es una receta salada, originaria de las costas, y mi prima (la esposa de mi primo) y yo no perdíamos la oportunidad de pasar por un restaurante costeño a disfrutar de este delicioso platillo. Mi papilas gustativas bailaban de alegría, algo que puso contenta a la señora que la preparaba ya que sabía que soy chef y que por ende tengo un paladar entrenado. Si en algún momento regreso a Colombia de visita es obligatorio para mi regresar a ese restaurante.
