Traditions & Cultures (#7)

When exploring the local street art comes with lots of colours and moods there are also plenty of stories (happy or not) and cultures. In fact, art meets no boundaries in most cases and that's what makes everything even more exciting to be explored thinking of how far it can go, and being able to also see the difference between cultures on the way.

And for today's topic, this is exactly what I picked: Traditions & Cultures.

Some might be represented by local heroes who played a major role in history, while some might only show bits of Romanian clothing traditions or from abroad. Yet another cool way of exploring this country other than travelling or reading stories from some of the most famous tourist attractions.

But before we take one by one each of the street artworks picked for today's post and find what their story truly is, I'd like to mention that this post will also take part in the CCC's Street Art Contest #219!

The first art for today's pick represents an adaptation to the current times where old-school meets the modern generations that also play the role of the future. While the experience can be seen in the eyes of the visual piece of art, the clothing items belong to the generation of the future, filling the space of a common language where tradition and contemporary can still go along together.

Next up, we face one of the rare occasions when a story is not available to be shared online, so the freedom of interpretation is at the discretion of those passing by. If I have to share my own understanding, then something in my head thinks of the two girls as being sisters who are needed to hide from domestic violence and keep it a secret, which sadly it's a very popular situation in Romania.

Another piece of art is also brought on the 3rd place where we face again the situation of not having a story shared. However, this was added after the war between Russia and Ukraine started and thinking of how many Ukrainians are living in Romania now (I also have 3 neighbours on the door next to me), gives me the feeling of being a street art dedicated to them. I might be wrong as I don't have much knowledge of their culture and traditions when it comes to clothing items, but that is the single thought that gets in my head whenever I watch this.

Next up we get back to the local traditions and cultures which, this time, is meant to play the role of a warning sign where we find way too fast a solution for everything and forget about enjoying the authenticity of life and how things used to look like a while ago. For that reason, sometimes is a lot better to revive the old times and take a break from technology for at least 24 hours instead of rushing through life without even realizing those surrounding us.

Name: CONTEMPORARY LIFESTYLE (2019)
Artists: ANDREEA TOMA
Location: Strada Lungă 65, Sibiu 550107, România

Last but not least, I picked a 2 in 1 kind of street art where both pieces are part of the same location but somehow remain so different from each other. Sadly, I wasn't able to approach any closer because of having the school closed during my visit, but the street art from the left is all about the connection created between mural art and architecture, everything being linked by those looking at it, and the 2nd piece is nothing else but a portrait of Mihai Viteazul that is a national hero who played a major role in history. The street art with him tries to maintain the interest of the younger generations who find history too boring and skip some of the most important aspects of how Romania was formed and what used to represent a while ago, hence why, the style used for it is a modern one.
