My Entry to the CCC's Street Art Contest #210: "Street Art on Facade”

Last night, I went on a little adventure hunting for my entry in the CCC’s street art contest. I knew exactly where to go—Kampong Glam. This area is famous for its cool restaurants, pubs, shopping spots, and, of course, some of the best street art in the city. I had no doubt I’d find something amazing there, especially since the place is buzzing with talented artists. There's a vibe here, like everyone's trying to outdo each other, making the art scene competitive and exciting.

Now, I can’t say for sure if this is an official competition or just the artists motivating themselves, but you can feel it—one artist trying to outshine the next. And it’s not just the artists; the shop owners are in on it too. It’s like street art has become the theme for every restaurant and pub around here.

So, during my little escapade, I zeroed in on shops that use street art to make their places more inviting and lively. Take this coffee shop, for example.

They’ve got this mural on the wall that shows off their coffee-making process; kind of a preview of what you’re gonna get inside. It’s a simple way to give customers an idea of what to expect, especially if you’re in the mood for some traditional Singaporean coffee.

Besides the usual murals, I noticed another type of art that’s pretty popular around here: stickers.

Some of the electrical boxes are plastered with them, almost completely covered. It’s another way for these artists to express their ideas and beliefs; kind of like leaving their mark in a small but powerful way.

Then, I came across this one pub that caught my eye with its fluorescent paint on the façade, making it look like neon lights.

It gave off this cool cyberpunk vibe, bringing the place to life without racking up a huge electricity bill.

And then there’s this spot that’s freshly painted.

I saw some artists working on it a few weeks back, and now it’s mostly done. But it’s like a work in progress—there’s still room on the walls and fences for more.

Finally, I stumbled upon a pub that completely blew my mind. The entire façade was covered in artwork, a real showcase of talent, creativity, and dedication. You could see it from far away, and it was just stunning—definitely my favorite of the night.
