The city of Tarragona celebrates the shortest night of the year with its traditional bonfires the night of June 23 to 24, around the summer solstice.

The summer solstice is associated with a magical night of spells and omens. Tarragona celebrates this date of verbenas, popular dinners and firecrackers until dawn through the rite of the fires, which are lit symbolically in several parts of the city with the Canigó flame, a fire that is initially lit on the top of the mountain del Canigó, in the Pyrenees.
