When someone mentions Barceloneta, everyone thinks of Barcelona's endless beach and one of the most beautiful neighborhoods of this colorful city. While I was staying in Barcelona, I heard an interesting story about this neighborhood.
Barceloneta was built from the ruins of the second quarter. Sometime in the 18th century, the city decided to build a large military fortification on the site of a quarter. The strategic location of Ribera was chosen, which meant that thousands of residents of this district had to move.
They built their houses on the nearby sandy beach, and as building material they used the material that was created by the demolition of their houses on Ribera. This sandy beach became a settlement and is now the famous Barceloneta beach.
Barceloneta is one of the most popular and beautiful districts of Barcelona. Beautiful beaches, always something happening, full of bars and excellent fish restaurants, lively atmosphere and almost non-stop parties.
